I purchased a BH gunship yesterday and have been looking for some turrets. I found some Solarus turrets (I think that's name) on Freeport 11 and Prison Station Mitchell. My conundrum: To buy or not to buy. Or rather to sell them and buy back my Liberty turrets.
On one hand, Solarus turrets were designed and made by the Order and Corsairs. That would seem to make them unusable from an rp perspective. My pilot is a BH.
On the other hand, the same turret is on sale at Prison Station Mitchell, a Liberty base. If only the Order and Corsairs could use these turrets, why is Liberty selling them at a prison station?:huh:Kind of funky.
solaris turrets are considered free for all ( by the rule )
so are mortars, razors, cerberus, inferno ( cap version ) - that might one time change though, depending on how far the roleplay is carried concerning capship weapons.

the point is that these weapons are considered "necessary" for a balanced equipped capital ship. its somewhat overrated - they are useful, but the basic turrets do the job just as good - most of the time ( when facing another ship with only basic turrets:laugh::laugh:)
Practically - Solaris are the best "regular" turrets you can get. They pack a typical GB turrets' punch and energy consumption, but offer 1 more refire compared to all others (5.0 vs 4.0)
Haven't yet tested their performance in some real battle (so far - it's been a mix of cerbs, IMG regulars and infernos), so I can't say how good they are, but "work" with nasty lv 18 NPCs goes relatively smoothly.
I've been looking at weapons for a possible Corsair Gunboat for later and I'd suggest using the Zoner Gunboat turrets over the Solaris.
Not only do Zoner Gunboat turrets do more damage per second, they also output more damage per power unit consumed ( .0678 shield damage per unit for power for Solaris while zoner turrets do 0.0925 shield damage per power unit ). This means they're about 1.36 times more efficient as well.
This is of course offset by their reduced fire rate of 4 shots per second compared to 5 shots per second for the Solaris, but it's a pretty small disadvantage I reckon.

Useful tool, Used it to make a whole graph, comparing the efficiency of all the guns I can use. And I mean - ALL.
I know that DS reveals too much for some, but the alternative is exploring every single sector of space and recording info on everything myself :crazy:

Back on topic: Use Gunboat Battle Razors for assaults against heavier ships as they do immense damage per second and are very efficient ( 0.12357 shield damage per power unit used ). Only setback is sluggish speed of 550 m/s and refire rate.
when it comes to setting up gbs, i hate having any battle razors on any mount. i consider them a waste of my turret slots.
energy efficiency is a good thing, but having guns which do good damage, while taking a lil bit of energy is no harm. the recahrge on gbs is pretty fast as well:
eg: when i had my lib gb, i had 2 cerbs, and rest lib turrets. this kind of gave me an edge, since it does a bit more damage than a normal loadout of full lib turrets. plus, if you are fighting another gb, its a decent loadout (tis for me)
however, when dealing with vhfs, i disagree with both azza and mjolnir, to an extent.
any gb turret you have is good at taking out any ship's hull. depends alot on how well your aim is etc.
also, a single gb, if flown correctly can EASILY avoid a bomber's supernova shots (done it meself). a VHF and bomber will have a tough time against a well armed and flown gb. but, if there was the fact that there are 2 bombers, yes. you may have a potential problem then:lol:
on the note of using sols, i think its fine to use em (personally, id rather not) on your BH char. if you were using corsair/outcast or any other pirate turrets, then we have a problem:)
