Nichols was built to give OSI members something to do, to further OSI's role play as a trading power in the border and Edge worlds, and serve as a Freeport that we as players could fully control.
Initial costs for the station drained Stygian's personal bank, my personal bank, and OSI's bank. We have made our money back three or four times over though; with a most of it being funneled right back into the base and into the hands of whoever frequents the station to trade.
I don't think I'd have one just to have one, to much work and to costly just to have one for the sake of having one.
As for me i had one. Wich i RP well with. shamefully it went down this way. but hell.
Liked using it as a shop. had 0 interest in making factory's just helping the traders out making some cash. shamefully several have to find other routes. but ok

Can be achieved through setting.
For example:
1) I wanna buy Ragnaroks for 20 mil per unit.
So I set
/shop price XX 20000000 1000 1000
Anyone can sell Rag to me, but no one can buy.
2) I got enough and wanna sell for 30 mil
/shop price XX 30000000 0 0
Anyone can buy, but no one can sell
About docking. Only possible solution, as i see, is to set restricted (non-hostile) mode and allow dock to lawful factions and approved individual ships.
Base is money and time sink, so if you have a base either you have too much money or time.
Buying Cloak Mk II Advanced for 500 Million is cheaper than making it by yourself.

Than I would have to neglect half of my customers wishes and deliverers. I doubt, that the total service for my customers would bebefit from such a base.
*Monty Python* When the Mollys started building their base all there was were Corsairs and Lawfuls, people told them they were DAFT to build near Lawful territory, but they built it anyway! Just to show em...It got blown up, SO- They built a second one! That got blown up, they built a third one, that got infiltrated, siphoned THAN blown up but the fourth one stayed up!:D
Anyways people build bases for many reasons.
The Mollys built theirs for both RP and Security reasons for example, alot of others built simply so they could get access to Cloaking Devices, Jump Drives and the like while some others built it as a monument to their RP.
