Well, a big reason for owning a base is that it allows a lot of RP possibilities and it allows you to gain control over a system, or a planet trough RP means.
Like the Smallwood base or how it was called, it was used to RP a planet's colonization and maybe, having the possibility to dock on it in the future.

I really doubt that GMG would be able to hold off the amount of hostiles you are actually wanting to bring to your door step, and being sieged is just about as much fun as doing the sieging..
what would be fun is if a massive corsair fleet came to seige your base, and then a massive outcast fleet came over like STEP ASIDE PEONS.. and then some massive battle happened while the gmg players sat and sipped lmaonade, watching their enemies murderise each other.
PvP the whole lot of em. Not going to just sit there and watch. About as good as an idea as me suggesting you play disco by stepping back from the keyboard and let your brother take care of it.

well pvp while a siege is going on. never seen that before. even if you try the responce is allways the same.

Or they will ,,ally" with eachother and shoot the base first as the main target and then they will murderise each other after they finish with the base.
I've experienced that once, but the attackers were wiped out by the defenders, and it was close to happen twice, but, there was a sudden change of mind in one side of the attackers
