Switchback has had so many of those so-called 'last posts' on Discovery that any made during an apocalypse would be rather meaningless.

Lets say San Francisco is the Ground Zero.

The Military would surely attempt to Quarentine the area in conjunction with SFPD, the Coast Guard.

The main problem would be creating a complete cordon around the infected areas. A City isn't easy to lock down, and the Military would attempt to try evacuating and quarantining any non-infected people. Theres only so many National Guard Units on call. And this is discounting the fact of sentiment. And the ROE for the armed forces. It may spread slowly, but its harder to quarantine a outbreak if its easy to conceal until said infectee starts getting the munchies for other people (A bite).

There have been widespread plagues before, and while the death tolls have been high, they didn't come anywhere near threatening the survival of the human race. And that was back when the average human was far less intelligent than today.

Plain and simple, unless the initial infection rate is impossibly widespread, there's no way it could infect a sufficient number of people to threaten one state, let alone one nation, let alone the whole world. The federal government would get on top of it, one way or another, long before it could get out of control.

again read the thread and also read a good zapoc book like World war Z the worst thing is that most people doesn't think rationally they would want their 6 year old daughter or their mother to pass controls they will soborn they will do whatever it takes because they are suffering a loss they are moving everything they can because they heard a roumour of a friend of a friend that in USA they found a cure... same happens from usa to the rest of the world... plus the chinans exporting infected organs into the black market same happens with stupid and fanatic people thinking that they could take out the disease with his mambo jambo (im a christian myself and i include some christians in that) and i could continue with like 20 more ways of widespread... i calculate that with 5 ground zeroes on capital cityes is enough...
