The Exécutif des Opérations Spéciales (EOS) of the Council Armed Forces coordinates the special operations forces belonging to the Liberation Army and Navy, conglomerating them in a single corps primarily tasked with unconventional warfare and special reconnaissance missions against the Royal Navy and other groups affiliated with the Gallic Crown. Due to the lack of a dedicated military intelligence unit, the EOS also includes counter-espionage in their agenda, even though the exact nature of their operations has always been unknown to everybody but the Council High Command, which holds direct jurisdiction over the group.
History
Since the beginning of the Second Gallic War, the Council had only relied on popular support and asymmetric warfare to strengthen their numbers and weaken the Royal forces, slowly progressing from a guerrila group toward a formidable Navy. Still outgunned by Royal forces in open combat, the High Command recognized the need of a professional unit able to push the boundaries of guerrilla warfare beyond Royal Navy's awareness, whose spec-ops units were gradually learning to counter the never-changing Council's guerrilla plans... Until the EOS was born.
The first (and perhaps only) reports certifying the existance of the EOS date from 729 AGS, months prior to the assault launched into Languedoc. Their only openly known mission was the infiltration of an EOS commando on board Nimes station, successfully taking control over the defense systems and thus allowing the Council fleet to seize the station with ease. Further EOS mission records have been kept in secrecy until the present day, allegedly done to prevent the royalist forces from acquiring any knowledge about the unit's modus operandi.
Current status
Nowadays, the EOS has been deemed as defunct unit by many gallic communities, while the royalist intelligence agencies claim to have proofs about EOS operators found in active duty, also suspecting that the tactics of these slippery enemies have slowly been perfected by Navy defectors over the course of the last years.
At present date, the EOS is composed of at least four operational squadrons, although external sources claim that the exact number may be six.
Premier Commando d'Action Navale 'Grenouille' Falling under the Council Liberation Navy branch, they have served as elite escorts of High Command personalities and have also aided Royal Navy defectors to evacuate safely into Marne to join Council's ranks. Their HQ is located in Planet Marne, Champagne system.
Zème Régiment d'Intervention Rapide du Front de Libération Gaulois Formed right after the Council reached Roussillon system, the duties of this squadron don't differ from its predecessor at all excepting having an area of operations sensibly different, the Taus. They've been mistaken with Maquis terrorists by royalists patrols, allowing this unit to use this misknowledge on their favor and remain as a ghost unit for the enemy intelligence agencies. HQ is located on board Battleship Pamiers, Roussillon system.
Premier Régiment d'Opérations Spéciales Belonging to the Council Liberation Army branch, they're mainly known for the successful infiltration into Nimes station, they have also been assigned to minor tasks during the seizure of Planet Quillan. Current HQ is located in Planet Toulouse, Roussillon system.
Groupe de Guerre Asymétrique 'Fantôme' Suspected to have its roots in the Mouvement de Libération Gaulois and lately absorbed by the Council's EOS under the name of Asymmetric Warfare Group, their roster may vary from former royalist special agents to civilians who previously ran through a very selective recruitment procedure. As the name indicates, their activities include subversion, sabotage, assassination and intel-gathering. Having to rely on unorthodox methods to accomplish said tasks, the Maquis are often used as scapegoat.
