/l1 while lazy, definitely improves the roleplay atmosphere in whole in regards to people who don't know enough english yet. Everyone has problems they might want to hide (including the emberessmint of noing skwat abawt inglish), the removal of setmsg might 1) motivate them to learn proper english or 2) drive them away to another server. Good. I logged on yesterday and felt like the server was waaaay too crowded during peak hours anyway. 170 players online at once? Pffft, it's time we got rid of some of em.

You forget that every lost player is a lost crapload of RP opportunities, as without players we wouldn't have RP at all. And judging from some of the leaving player's join dates, it seems that some of them are in fact veterans, and veterans are in fact more likely to RP than new players eg. me.

You forget one thing: player who has 8 preset messages has exactly 8 RP opportunities, which is slightly less than crapload. Player who speeks only in presets is Rp wise no different from npc, actually on my rp worth list presets go just after LPI donnut party, which is quite low (I would not be surprised if some police players had donnut related presets). And with removal of presets player will be actually given more time to respond properly, so presets were double edged sword in that regard. So many times i was not given enough time to respond. And yes, silent trader is better than one who pretends to rp.

And about life being hard for PvPwhores, it should be hard. Its "RP enforeced server". Rules don't reflect actual server policy, because than they would either be too complicated or restrict rp options. PvPwhoring without ever rping is to some extent rule abuse. However its hard to distinguish guy-who-likes-to-pew from pvpwhore, so both types exist here. Why arent pewers staying in Conn? Only reason i can come up with is griefiing, which is quite sad.

So sindroms, I am very curious to know what is YOUR reason to pew in sirius rather than Conn? I'm not trying to blame, offend, start witch hunt, etc., I just want to know what does the "other side" think.

of course if i run into a pirate(one who actually wants to RP and is not in a GB or a Bomber) then i'll be happy to Rp with em for quite some time(just don't ask for 2 mill creds when i am in a rhino and I'm carrying Scrap metal)

but then again, i feel The game itself, unfourtantly cannot be tweaked enough to have this RP parasise that most of us crave.

(sigh) the yonder years of AD&D in my friend's basement for hours on end. lost my virginity there to a rather Plump lass. but was well worth it.

I agree with the spaz. TBH, though I disagree with the removal of setmsgs, I dont think its gonna be the end of the world, in fact Im kinda interested to see what change it will bring. For me probly the only change is it will make me RP slightly less, as I wont have time to send a longer prepared setmsg, and will only have time to type "stop pay me" or "your under arrest" in order to have enough time to to kill them before the enemy cruises/jumps/takes a lane.

Let me also note, that there are many, MANY people, a lot of which I have flown with, who had no interest in RP, came here mainly for PVP, but still acted within the server rules by following minimum engagement fights and received and gave enough pew pew fun for both sides involved. Let this be clear. You can play on this server within the server rules and never have to RP.

If they shot the guys it was INRP for them to shoot, then I say, they WERE RPing! RP is NOT just talking remember? If I meet some Molly on my BPA, and all he does is shout "aaarghhg Im gonna getcha" and shoot me, thats RP isnt it?

Preset messages could be used to lazy-RP, OR it may be used to initiate a good amount of RP. Anyway, what's wrong with Character: Greetings #t someone I have no intention of RP'ing with if I'm on a long ass trade route?

In movies, characters opposed to each other simply exchange about 0.5 sentences before they start firing. Except that since its a movie, characters are able to stay in cover for a while without being shot at so they can talk some more. For RP to happen during PVP,
a) one side must be heavily disadvantaged and b) the extremely advantaged side must be willing to RP
After all, what's the point of RP'ing if you're gonna get blown up before you finish your sentence?

For me, when my police was in a light fighter, I couldn't type and dodge gunfire at the same time, to RP was certain insta-death for me unless i had setmsg. Then I got a GB, and only then could I type a full sentence during the middle of a battle vs 2 bombers (who didn't have antimatter) without exploding.

My point was that Shooting is just as much RP as talking, so when your not talking much, as long as you are acting inrp, you are still RPing arnt you?

Thats why Id disagree with you when you say "to RP was certain insta-death for me". You WERE RPing, by fighting those guys.

Please, i've had good encounters with slow typers, bad english.
The works. Roleplay is an attitude, kids. Wear it like you own it.

What normally makes me facepalm is people that circumvent it or basically ignore the roleplay.

Point in case, today, shooting an XXX transport (not saying the faction, only it is an official faction, and said man was tagged with it). Three Reavers shows up in his front, start talking about bounties on said XXX's head and acting all professional, without even mentioning Silver's, Titanium's or Sangria's mammary glands, or booze.

Basically, by the book encounter with mercenaries that gave time to reply to any and all inquiries.

He asked who issued the bounty. We told we didn't shared said knowledge.
He asked if it was posted in the OFFICIAL forums (that made me quiver a little).
We said we didn't knew what forums was he mentioning.
I should have asked if the poor captain was drunk or something.

To avoid my head bashing the keyboard, we destroyed the transport.
Minutes after we stopped it.

He had perfect english. He had the time to type anything he wanted and he did.
He is part of an official faction.
(here's the official word again. Making me quiver. I'll need a massage at the end of this post)

Roleplay gents, and good ol' fairplay.
It is what's needed. Set messages does not improve it or downgrade it.

Sure, group set messages will be fine and dandy, because typing
mid battle to hit X or Y, if you are being shot at, it is a pain.

But, did i lost something by losing the ability to have setmessages on the overall? Nope.

Sure, you type more. You'll learn a little more everyday.

But looking at the grand scale of the server gameplay today?
I can't help to feel a little giddy knowing a third of the server will
actually lose time typing a line or two every once in a while.

RP = Role Play, you are taking on the role of a character within the game world and your actions, knowledge, strengths and weaknesses are adjusted to be that of the persona you have chosen for yourself.

This nonsense about not chatting with someone has nothing to do with actual roleplay, each of our actions are what really matter in any given situation. It's when we deviate from our characters established personas that merit any real criticism and justifications outside the game.

If you are attacked by a player and all the elements of them attacking you are backed by lore, reputation and common sense then requesting they get sanctioned just because they didn't give you the the courtesy "Hello would you like to have some Tea?" just sounds petty and in poor taste not to mention being a poor sport.

While most if this has nothing to do with /setmsg directly, it does suggest that with or without it you should not be hindered in your ability to RP. And of course to say that anyone who thinks a few /setmsg's defines RP should stop trying to jam the triangle block into the circle spot.

It all depends on place and factions involved, I have no problem with LN RM shooting each other till the end of the world because each faction is about warfare, but when for example LR raids Manhattan while 1lining and shooting everyone(even though they are enemies irp), its all very lame. Thing about factions in constant war is that in some sense pvp there is voluntary, but when LR shouts "die you corporate scum", all it brings is grief to trading faction player.

Also, I don't think pirate/police should be immediate KILLRED, unless pirate is caught during crime or police is deep in pirate zoi. (molly can engage with little rp in Dublin, but can't in new London)

Oh and people who pvp abuse trading transports in GB/dessie are lame cowards no matter the circumstances.

Edit: so yeah, I take my words that "people not rping at all should leave" back, as long as they keep engagements to factions and places that are mortal enemies, and don't ruin rp between other players.
