I'm sorry if im clogging up the com in NY but atleast i'm trying to keep it RP, sometimes it's too quiet in there (~20-40 players online) then a silly comment like "oh i hope Mc.Space is still open in manhattan cause it feels like my stomache is bout to implode" wouldnt hurt.. that much?

When it is quiet I don't see it as a problem, my main gripe is when people do that when others are trying to rp.
Aren't potatoes extict at this point? i consider that politically incorrect and OORP. and cmon guys, junkers aren't on their butt's all day, neither are the zoners.

Y'know i actually got laughed at openly for asking for permission to dock on NY a while back. some guy went...
"lolz n00b, you don't have to ask permission to dock, are you someone's whipping boy or summat?"
If he had been physically near me at the time i would have removed his face with a spade.
*hands a spade to JihadJoe*
And then...herewith a real laugh out loud moment for me!
This fellow made me laugh.. after the entire Liberty police and Navy's failed attempt at RP with him, he ended his already stellar RP session with a fantasticly creative and original finale'
Ladies and gentlemen I give you: 'The ultimate in RP Excellence award.'
No nexus like jump hole thingies. People would inevitably just use those shortcuts to trade. No matter how strict the enforcing there would be countless of infractions. The enforcing would require a full time admin just to sit on the system. The cap ship fly throughs would only increase in number.
Unless you could make the jump hole one way only.
Also moving the starting place to Connecticut or any dead-end place would not really help. People would just fly out of the system to hang out above Manhattan as usual (or any other main planet if the dead-end system would be located in some other house's system).
The big part of the hanging around is that there are other to hang out with. This resembles very much real life where teens go to hang out at mall with their buddies and fool around. To go nicely with this kind of activity is the show-off mentality. Why else do you think there are Battleships flying around?
There are very few things you can really do about it. One would be to pick and groom the potential future RPers while trying to keep up the appearances by setting the example in NY (or any other place). Another would be to have a constant admin like watchout on the proceedings. Taking the things through the court (sanctiion reports) is time consuming so Disco needs Judge Dredd type of instant meting out justice.
That is lamer than lame....at least when you are chasing my smugglers I don't log out until I am forced to stop and pay the fine or until I get away and the pursuit is terminated. People like the one in the screenshot better get lost and out of here. I would love to kos them, but chances are they would just log off then too.
~pulls up a block of salt behind him for anyone who needs a grain or two~
It is a disgrace that people perpetually OOC in NY and any other system for all to see, there is PM, Local, and Group Chat for such things. The main channel is for general role play in my eyes and even in Group Chat there should be a demeanor of role play in that as well. I really don't see much of a problem though so long as the OOC stuff stays out of the system chat or to an absolute bare minimum. It's hard to be at a minimum though when you have masses of people + nubs congregating around Manhatten though. There are just too many people, and even though it is rule breaking, Freelancer is a social game and it's hard not to get carried away with the OOC in System Chat and everyone wants to chime in their 2 cents on the subject at hand. And then you have about 10 people trying to tell them to get back in character, before you know it you have a bad situation on your hands and a turn away for serious role players in their first few minutes on the server. Remember when you are in Liberty there are usually nubs around so whatever you do, you are showing them how the Disco RP Server works and what goes on. So do your best to do what needs to be done and by the rules. I got cussed out the other day by some absolute fool, Canonicus, because he left loot at the docking ring at Manhattan. It just so happened to be 25mil in credit cards and he cussed me out in system chat and others. This is childish behavior and I'm pretty sure any nubs around didn't appreciate it. This is just one example of stuff I have seen myself. Now I have done my own bit of OOC in NY as well as a few other systems, and yes it is hard sometimes not to. But I try to keep it very limited or I go into PM with someone. There's no need to have an entire conversation out in the open out of character in System Chat. I'm pretty sure everyone knows this and I'm pretty sure the people who are doing this constantly know this. So there should be a solution to this for major violators of this sanction. Ban them for a few days, maybe it might tighten them up some. I'm pretty sure the Admins are doing all that they can on this anyway, but screen captures help. This presents another problem in itself though doesn't it? You will have those who don't really care about the RP and will just sit there and screen capture every bit they can just to see what kind of trouble they can cause for other players who don't OOC very much at all, and at the other extreme you will have the same extreme for the die hard RP'ers who don't want any OOC around. My suggestion to this? Why don't we just include a ''Hangout'' System in the next mod release? The theory behind this is that anyone who doesn't feel like role playing or just wants to chat with his fellow players have a place they can go to. I know that this promotes people lazing about on the server and idling, but this would also make a neutral ground for discussions that matter in game. Like treaty talks in character or other such things. I don't know, I notice the server can get very full at times and maybe this is not a solution. It's just a thought though. And again, this has been my 25 cents. Kudos to those who RP, it's great.:)

I congratulate you for taking your time to write such a sensible analysis on the issue. But as for your proposition, no.
The server is not a chat room. There are a number of tools appropriate for that. A lot of the people here use the TS, Skype or XFire to chat away, I believe someone even proposed an irc channel. If you don't feel like playing, please don't take server slots for chatting. There are people outside frustrated they can't get in and actually play the game. It gets more frustrating when you realize that probably 30-40 of the people inside are just 'hanging out' in Manhattan. Sorry, no.
