Its a shame that it was confusing. One could actually play Undercover agent using the faction ID, since nobody could see it.

I thought it goes like this:

ID = Pilots papers, or so to speak. Can't be faked unless it's some sort of SRP and pilot is playing some sort of spy. Shows pilot's true colors.

IFF = Ship's transponder, which sends signals to other ships showing them on greater distances whose banners are you flying, but can be faked. For example: Pirate can steal Zoner's transponder, mount it on his pirate ship and you would think it's a Zoner ship, but upon closer look you would see you were wrong.

IFF stands for "Identification Friend or Foe". Basically it shows who you are and who you represent. They are InRP but at the moment, most people go of what their ID says. Real life Military and Commercial Jets also use the IFF to identify if you're a Friend or Foe, Hence IFF, "Identification Friend or Foe".

I saw at least two sanctions against people abusing Zoner IFF to hide their Pirate ID. So this example is not really fitting.

That's why I gave it as an example, because I saw people doing it. But if you don't like that example then go with Pirate ID and Freelancer IFF.
