I am looking at the RP needed to build a cruiser. Talking to people is, of course, going to be a principle component, but I was trying to come up with a commodities list.
I've been through this once, but it was the attempt to SRP a Persephone for Star Enterprises by upgrading an existing ship. I don't think they are comparable, so I put the list below together from that list. A Corvo is roughly 1/7 of the Persephone, but I also figured there were some things missing. I would like input, and the reasoning behind it, on whether or not I have a reasonable list for a new construction.
First you should think about how many people will be crewing the ship. Cruisers of today have about 2-300 I believe, spaceships have 5? Next, think about tonnage, I always use the example that 1 cargo unit = 10 tons. Work out how much a real life cruiser weighs, how much a spaceship weighs, and how much airplanes weigh and go from there. Just how I would do it.

If things go the way I am working toward, I would be going for a Corvo.
Displacement: Approx. 9,600 long tons (9,800 t) full load
Length: 567 feet (173 m)
Beam: 55 feet (16.8 meters)
Draught: 34 feet (10.2 meters)
Figure even with 1 cargo unit = 1 ton (very realistic) You would only need max of about 15,000 tons to complete the ship. Especially since a Corvo is a rather small cruiser/destroyer. It's up to you, it is your RP after all.

Half would be enough. Actually I'd say you could throw out most of the minor commodities. I myself work with 13 only, the normal versions of base building commodities of my choice.
