Wow, Nationstates! Haven't played that in over 5 years and 2 different people have brought it back to my attention in the last week! Wonder how many of the West Pacific government still play!
in fact my favorite RP ingame event was when the OCs attacked Crete with just a handful of fighters. (only Ivan was on at the time) and as soon as we got there we got capspammed of course (not by the factions, this was in the days of TT) and the Red Hessian Cruiser we brought went boom as did another fighter, so it was me in my bomber and a saber vs a HUGE fleet. So I told my friend to get out and as I went BOOM said in system comms "My brother is safe, I'm content" and imho that's one of the best pieces of RP that I've done. And all cause we lost.
oh wow, that sure brings back memories. I used nationstates a while back, 3-4 years ago, I guess. it was pretty good, depending on how involved you got, and who you got involved with.
It brings up a very good point though, we're here ultimately to have fun, not to prove ourselves better than someone else. heck, there's many games where I was most proud of moments where I lost and put up a good fight rather then just win. I had a game of Dawn of War go on an hour after I have clearly lost, with only three groups of gretchin left. I scattered them and started building HQ's everywhere and many laughs were had by me, the players that had already lost, and even the last player that had to hunt me down.
truth is, if you're having fun, you've won, not the other way around
