In this case it would be an overnight job. 3.6GB Takes a fair amount of time to download on my Internet. Perhaps even a day or so to do it. I'll make note to start it this evening and just leave the PC running, it's not like the hardware isn't used to running for long periods of time without being switched off. I think the longest it's been on was 6 days constantly.
Whoever said Win8 and 8.1 is entirely wrong... name me an aspect you think of is bad in Win8.1 and I'll prove you the opposite. I'm using Windows 8.1 since 6-8 months now on all my devices, I was used to Windows 7 and was hating vista, the usual boyo'. Ppl around me still say Windows 8.1 is bad... lmao... Imagine, they tell you that Windows8.1 is bad even though they only have apple products at home and not a single damn windows OS. I'm sure you guys do have Windows but still, did you ever tried out Windows 8.1 and gave it a 'real' chance to convince you?
Windows 8.1 is a progress, a step forward. Win8.1 is more efficient than Win7 and past versions, in a couple of aspects...
Alright, overall the design is based on each individual character - if you like the design or not, is up to you (the customer) luckily we all know, how highly customizable Windows is, you do right? You could just modify windows, you can change the Windows Icons, heck you can do a LOT of stuff aslong you have a restore point somewhere stored, just in case.
and a lot more links you can find via google..., I haven't implemented any of the above, imho Windows 8.1 looks damn sexy/modern.
About the OP's question ; Just upgrade it and let the procedure finish. It will not break anything, don't worry. Windows 8.1 is like, like upgrading Windows XP Service Pack 1 to Service Pack 2... They just renamed Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 (1 stands for Service Pack 1, lol surprise (: )(^_^)
In regards to how the upgrade is coming along? Yeah it's not wanting to work. I started it last night after watching a movie on my internet, of course i closed this first. Then i went into the store and started the update. 9 Hours later the bar hasn't moved from where it started and the thing says 'Downloading'. I think i might just slap on Classic shell and be done with it, i'm fast running outta patience with this nonsense. There some sort of other installer i can use? the store whenever i click buttons looks 'Flimsy' to me. It doesn't give me the feeling it's actually doing something half the time.
Edit: Something that's just occured to me regarding something else, i noticed i don't have Media Centre anymore. I use my PC for TV and would kinda like it back though it's not desperate. Any solutions to that or am i gonna need to get some third party thing? - Cheers for the suggestions!
Do you have a Windows 8.1 key somewhere? If so, you could use Rufus and download Windows from their site manually. Then it's quite easy :
In case you want to reinstall Windows 8+8.1 totally
Code:
- Download Rufus from here = https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/9069782/RUFUS_create_bootable_USB_flash_drives%28EASY%29
- Download Windows 8 Setup Tool from here = http://www.chip.de/downloads/Windows-8-Setup-Tool_64940095.html
- Run it, enter your product key
- After you got the ISO from the setup tool, get a flash drive (USB-Stick)
- Open Rufus , choose the ISO and the flash drive
- Check the box that says "bootable usb stick" or so
- Then restart your PC after it's done, go into BIOS
- Change boot device settings to : removable device/the usb stick
- Restart again
- Press any key while startup to get into Windows setup
In case you do want to try, only to install Windows 8.1 on your current Windows
Code:
- Download the Win8.1 iso manually = http://www.chip.de/downloads/Windows-8.1_62405145.html
- Install it
- No need to enter a Windows 8.1 key, the Windows 8 key is more then enough if asked for.
Doing anything of the above, will automatically update&install media center, don't worry.
And here is the windows media center case, if you should feel like "I NEED DAT DARN"
Code:
- Uninstall media player or something named like that, else it's okay too just skip this then if you are unable to find it.
- Download&Install this => http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/products/windows-media-center/get-it
I'll give them a try, many thanks for putting as much effort as you have into this. I guess technology is just not liking me these days
Edit: I have no earthly clue on how to dig up the key. The standard key that came with this thing which had stock 8 works with 8.1?. Gonna dig around on that front.
Windows 8.1 is for free, sorry I've forgot about that. Aslong you have a legal version of Windows 8 around you will be able to upgrade it via my guide for free. I'll update the above!
Somebody should really pin this topic someplace for people like me who have no idea how windows 8 works or anything related to it. Since i'm old fashioned and used to XP/7/Vista
