I disagree, my Renzu Liner cost an arm and a leg and allows me the sense of superiority that I couldn't get flying a filthy transport.
Additionally if we look at real-world analogs of Cruise Ships and Ocean Liners, specifically the Allure of the Seas and RMS Queen Mary 2 both of which are considered the top of class in their respective categories. We see that they cost close to a Billion Dollars a piece. This isn't because the design is technically challenging, but because passengers demand certain luxury's be available to them, leading to the increase in cost.
And would you look at how much money those ships bring back over a trip or two ? Also, it's a little pointless to comper real life ship building and Freelancer, cause ... well, we all know why. However, unless someone helps a new player out, it's pretty challenging to get up to a Renzu or Luxury Liner, cause there are very few alternatives as of today. Which I would like to change, so I'm off to bother @Durandal on skype
Sense of superiority aside, which is mandatory for all OSC members I might add, our faction still boasts the most expensive requirements in Disco as our cheapest passenger ship is the Geisha weighing in at 59 million, four and a half times more than it's closest transport the Percheron. It equates to paying an extra 47 million for 35k more hit points, 2 guns and 50 more bots & bats.
Our mainstay liner by comparison to its counterpart, the Bison, is worse still. We pay an extra 96 million for 5k more hull, a CM, a gun, slower impulse and thrust speeds along with 200 more bots & bats plus a the chance to mount a docking bay.
In reality, yes those ships cost a small fortune but that is tied to production costs and materials, in Disco its just a barrier for time spent collecting credits. I'm not asking for prices to be dropped by insane amounts, just enough to be competive with our fellow trading factions.

It's been suggested before, technically impossible from what I recall.
I wish they'd just buff profit rates on passenger commodities overall, to the level of contraband or near it, so that running a well-armored liner isn't a totally unprofitable venture.
To prevent BMM 5kers from hauling them, the houses could/should enact laws restricting human transportation (pretty sure they did in the past).
Well, it could be done in a way that passenger transportation benefited mostly the OS&C pilots.
Simplify the current passenger routes and commodities, and add a new, low space, higher profit passenger commodity, which is locked for purchase to OS&C ID ships alone.
OS&C has a monopoly on this commodity, and if other IDs want a piece of the lucrative market, they either have to hijack the OS&C pilots cargo, or deal with them to have some transfered.
Kind of a uber VIP commodity.

In fact, this should be replicated to all the trader factions that don't mine, but presumably have a specialist commodity (and a monopoly on it), in parallel with a regular version of the said cargo, openly available to all traders.
Good to see this topic discussed, I had started a similar post, just before the server issue wiped this out. I would be happy to see any or a combination of the ideas being presented implemented. I believe that one of the main issues is not the buy / sell price of the current commodities but the nonsensical way they are distributed. It leads to bottle necked and one way routes.
I would suggest ( if possible ) scrapping the current passenger / vacationer / tourist / VIP commodities and replace them with a 3 commodity system:
Tourists: Purchased at large populated planets - Sold at various "Tourist" locations e.g Luxury Liners, Resort planets etc.
Passengers: Purchased at "tourist" locations - Sold at large populated planets
Commuters: Inter house travellers, inter base travellers

VIPs could travel between house capitols, in a similar fashion to alcohol products. Commuters going from planets to local economic stations would make sense.
However, please leave the Corsair connections to passaenger transport and such, cause that's also a road OSC can go on, since there are already deals with the Hiogosha and Sairs on Hawaii and Golden Dragon.
To make our trade routes easier to understand I took the liberty and endured countless horrors to bring a visual representation of OSC Passenger and Trade routes. Be warned if you have eyes this may cause loss of vision, willingness to live and general hatred of lines.
if you're going to edit VIPs then keep the ones that are around... at least the O-49 sell point keep it....
because... i have made a nice route with it and am quite happy with that sell point
(and also own the cheapest buy-price atm in sirius)
just my 2 cents that if you try hard enough you can make a rather "useless" commodity into something that's quite nice

Just saying, the Luxury liner in Nagano is actually getting moved, I don't know where, however if I recall, its some place else in Kusari due to the upcoming war.
If they used my suggestion from last time we discussed where the Mackinac would go is New Tokyo between/near Planet Izu and Fuji but I'll update the routes as needed. I should also mention that the Curacao based passengers_Li is also missing until they are replaced,
