I kinda wonder, all those people who vote for removal of NPCs, will they start loging in more often if that would happen? Or would they stay in game longer? Because experience taken from previous decissions like this tells oposite.
I mean, for example Junkers. Did premium scrap made Junker RP or gameplay any more interesting? No. It made it more profitable only. And then a buff to the price. Did that make Junkers more popular for gameplay? Or did it just give a faction neutral with pretty much everything one of the most profitable trade routes?
@Sol Yes, they would play thing if they would start enjoying it more. But removal of annoyance doesn't add joy, you know? Removing annoying factors just makes doing what you already did easier, not more fun.
It adds to joy in a way that you can enjoy something without being annoyed?

You know, it's something to be just annoyed, and another thing to enjoy a challenge. Read my previous post.
You can enjoy a puzzle, because it is not easy to solve, and you could feel a sense of achievement after you finish it. Some annoyances obviously do not give you that enjoyment.
Yeah, but the annoyances we speak of have the potential to be a challenge, and a very fun one. Just takes more work and less listening to people who can not think further then one step ahead of them.
Ah, by the way, in current example I am 100% positive that Wesker isn't going to get more active, cuz busy with RL. And even if he wouldn't, his fun searching patern is quite simple - log, wait for a while, log off if no one came. Removing NPCs will only allow him to wait AFK. That's it.

In fact, despite paying less compared to a good trade route, I enjoyed battleship missions a lot more. It offered an alternative which was actually more fun to me, despite the clunkyness of NPC.
The problem is, many people disinterested in trading or hunting other players would love to be paid 1 million creds per mission that are now missions for circa 100-500k. When you take mission for one million (taking into account you should be earning at least 12 million in a normal trade run, around 30 minutes each), you have to face dozen of NPCs with player weaponry, player ships and unlimited powercore. Is PVP harder than that? It depends, because in usual PVP encounter you don't face 12 players - all alone.
TL;DR Missions against NPCs are broken and they aren't profitable - in that time you'd earn 12 million creds on sole trading. Moreover, you actually lose half of the earned money on repairs.
Honestly, there's only one point of their removal that would make sense. If it would be "shift+del" like easy and with a plan of their reballance. If that was an intention of all people I argued with, I appologise. Otherwise... well, taking away what can be lots of fun from the game just because it isn't right now is going to keep ruining the game, not improving.
