Kishiro Technologies is one of the great keiretsu of Kusari; a sprawling corporate empire responsible for the manufacture of advanced technologies including optical chips, engine components, and gas miners. The consumer division also supplies high-quality electronics for Kusari households who can afford the very latest technology.
In previous times, Kishiro was not as politically well-connected as their primary competitor, Samura and instead focused its efforts on developing advanced technology as its primary source of income. However, with the downfall and reformation of the Empire, Kishiro has risen in influence within Kusari and is now actively rivaling Samura to be the most politically-influential commercial concern within Kusari.
Kishiro is viewed as a progressive company, embracing change and innovation over the traditionalist views of their rival Samura.
History
10 A.S. - Katsuhiro Kishiro genetically engineers a species of Earth fish, creating a super-breed optimized for life in New Tokyo’s alien ocean waters. In addition, the brilliant scientist takes on the problems faced by Earth's rice, creating a new strain of crop that thrives in the harsh conditions on Planet New Tokyo. These developments win the adulation of the Kusari imperial family and begin the second of the two industrial dynasties of Kusari. Kishiro adopts the name Kishiro Technologies for his company, espousing a progressive, research-oriented environment that relies more on brains than sheer size and intimidation.
91 A.S. - Kishiro Technologies achieves a breakthrough in the development of quantum circuitry that revolutionizes the entire economy almost overnight. Just as its founder had originally planned, Kishiro products find their way into almost every consumer market, be it commercial or military. With their newfound capital, Kishiro Technologies rapidly expands their manufacturing capabilities and begins plans to establish Yukawa Shipyard within the nearby Honshu system.
118 A.S. - Construction on Yukawa is finalized, and the shipyard devoted almost exclusively to the construction of ships to be used in gas mining operations in the nearby Crow Nebula.
271 A.S. - After many years of increasing success, Kishiro leadership decides a grand station be built to act as the corporation's headquarters. Plans are drawn up for a large structure to be placed in orbit of Planet Fuji in the New Tokyo system.
277 A.S. - Six years of toil pay off, as the grand plan comes to fruition. Christened Shinagawa Station, this base sees most of Kishiro's upper management relocate overnight to its pristine offices and dwellings.
510 A.S. - Planetary surveys reveal the oceans of Planet Honshu to contain significant quantities of various chemicals and raw materials that are useful in the manufacture of optronics. Large optronics production facilities are erected on the neglected planet, with many planted directly on the seabed and platforms, saving on scarce land space. The industry revitalizes the planet's fortunes, and its population rises steadily.
550 A.S. - Kishiro makes its first steps into H-Fuel trade as relations between the Gas Miners Guild and their business partners, the once-exclusive distributor Samura Industries, sour. Kishiro finances a jump gate between Honshu and Sigma-19 for GMG to utilize in their newly-established operations in the system. In return, they are handed a lucrative distribution contract.
603 A.S. - Nago Station is built in Tau-29, with the intention of serving as a base from which to exploit the hydrocarbons that Kishiro so heavily relies on for the production of its optical chips in the system.
763 A.S. - Isehara Terraforming Outpost is erected in Okinawa in partnership with GMG, who are conducting a terraforming operation planetside. The outpost acts as a waypoint for goods destined for the surface, and the plutonium being sent up from the miners.
801 A.S. - An arrangement is made with GMG, with Kishiro providing The Guild with cost-effective and efficient gas miners in exchange for the coveted exclusive fuel distribution rights. A major blow to the corporation's main competitor, Samura, the resulting contract is a huge boost for both parties. A number of Kishiro reps base themselves on Aomori Station, but not in great numbers as Kishiro has its own operations nearby on Planet Honshu.
818 A.S. - With the completion of a docking ring, Miura no longer requires Isehara's cargo bays to act as a supply dump, as goods can flow directly onto the planet. The outpost switches to acting as a refinery for the plutonium being collected and changes its name to Isehara Refinery appropriately.
826 A.S. - Following the outbreak of the Sigma Conflict, Kishiro Technologies invested heavily into private security assets in an attempt to improve their reputation with the authorities of Kusari, while also keeping the now less guarded trade lanes secure. Recent rumors about the company engaging into acts of piracy against Rheinlanders are constantly declined.
827 A.S. - With the second Kusari-Gallic war immediately following the resolution of the Sigma Conflict, Kishiro finds a majority of its resources reallocated to supplying the war effort. As a result many of the projects the company was working on were put on a low boil. Once the war finally ended Kishiro quickly reshifted priorities back to their ongoing projects, fully intending to bring the future one step closer to the present.
Kishiro Technology's Goals
Develop cutting-edge technology which is ahead of the competition.
Kishiro's radical technological advances are what secured its place as a major player in House Kusari and the wider Sirius Sector. This reputation as a driver of innovation is a major asset to the keiretsu and must be cared for and nurtured in order to protect its position as a significant corporate player.
Ensure the technological advances that Kusari has over the other houses is maintained.
As a pillar of the Republic of Kusari, Kishiro has the best interests of its house at heart. In order to ensure the survival and prosperity of its home, it is imperative the house uphold its scientific edge. The company is dedicated to providing Kusari with what it needs to fulfill this goal.
Prevent Samura from controlling the Kusari market.
Samura Industries is the local, and main competitor. Despite its diminished influence in the government following the instatement of the republic, Samura is still a fearsome powerhouse and shows no signs of relinquishing such a position. Were it to manage to corner the market, this would spell doom for Kishiro and all its activities. Historically disadvantaged, Kishiro must stay competitive to survive.
Stations and Installations
Shinigawa Station, New Tokyo.
Shinagawa Station is the headquarters for Kishiro, one of the two largest keiretsu -- vast corporate networks -- in the Kusari Empire. While not as politically well-connected as their primary competitor, Samura, Kishiro has instead focused its efforts on developing cutting-edge technology.
Its most notable breakthrough was in 91 A.S. when scientists working aboard Shinagawa perfected the mass production of Optical Chips using a common Polymers' base. These Optical Chips have since become key components in everything from Optronics to ships to Jump Gates and Trade Lanes. Shinegawa has been expanded several times to accomodate a growing demand for this product.
Yukawa Shipyard, Honshu.
Construction on Construction finished on Yukawa Shipyard in 118 A.S., and it is the primary shipbuilding facility for Kishiro Technologies. Large parts of the shipyard have been replaced, added to and upgraded over the years to keep up with technological developments, and many of the key manufacturing components such as hull panels come from Rheinland via an ALG contract set up with Kishiro.
While Yukawa mainly manufactures ships for the commercial and civilian markets, ever since the corporate agreements between Kishiro and the GMG were signed the vast majority of all GMG vessels are constructed at Yukawa and the shipyard works around the clock to meet the ever-increasing demands.
Nago Station, Tau-29 System.
Constructed in 603 A.S. by Kishiro, Nago Station is one of Kishiro's primary sources for the Hydrocarbons needed to fabricate the Polymers used in Optical Chips. Optical Chips manufacturing is one of Kishiro's major business sectors, and Kishiro depends on a supply of Polymers to manufacture them. The station also houses a standing security force to repulse frequent attacks by pirates and protect its interests from interference by corporate rival Samura.
Isehara Refinery, Okinawa.
Isehara finished construction in 814 A.S., four months after the terraforming of Planet Miura was started, to handle the flow of goods to and from the planet, including the ore shipments that frequently make their way up from planet-side and the transports full of Prisoners to work in the Plutonium mines.
As the base of operations for the entire terraforming project on Planet Miura, quite a few Kishiro scientists, advisors, and even an unspecified number of former Planetform engineers hired for a huge sum are based onboard the station, with sophisticated tracking and weather satellite arrays to keep track of the planet's progress.
The station itself has a considerable security detachment from both Kishiro's personal forces and the Gas Miners Guild's own paramilitary squadrons, and the civilian transports that make their way to and from the base carrying supplies are generally considered relatively safe from hostile attacks. With the completion of Planet Miura's docking ring in 818 A.S., Isehara no longer needed to harbor supplies for the planet. It has instead become a major orbital refinery for Plutonium-base nuclear fuels.
