2 hour pvp death, kinda kills smuggling, if yer trying to make a run through a choke point. ???

That's why allowing trade even after PvP death again would be a good thing. I think it got removed because pirates were crying that traders didn't suffer enough from pirates actions.

It was because traders had no consequences of refusing to comply as they could do the same route instantly.

You see, sometimes you inevitably encounter people in this community who don't care about or outright detest the idea of facing the consequences of events, decisions, actions.

Consequences for not complying to a demand would be loss of cargo. If they want to retry getting past you again, that's an additional chance of interaction for the pirate. It's not like they'll be attacking you.

I thought the rules were written in a way that allows traders to revisit systems they're dead in?

That's already more than what's permitted for non-traders. And to me it looks like a neat middle ground between giving a leeway for traders and keeping consequences for bad choices.
