Her eyebrow rose, but the eyes were still closed. She breathed in, almost a sigh, while silence fell under that shade. Time could almost stand still, with only the sound of the pages of Helene's book being turned, present.
Her mind wandered to the thought of when was the last time she actually was this well. The light warmth through the shade of the branches and leaves, the silent whisper of the wind and live standing still. Her eyes opened softly and looked at Victor.
"Do be quick about it."
Her hand rose, with the nano-skin disappearing gradually, to hold his. A slight nudge was all the reassurance she needed. Parting their hands, she looked at the small child at her side.
"Hel, finish your book. We are to depart soon."
Helene looked up, slightly annoyed, before burying her head into the book once again, her right hand twitching ever so slightly. Kaze noticed that and her jaw tensed, looking still at the small girl.
A few minutes later, thanks to Mrs. Mcarthy, the picnic was cleaned, set and packed up once again, with Helene helping her nanny. Kaze was scanning the horizon, her mind resuming its usual pace, filling itself with the situations that needed her attention. The promotion was another variable, complicating everything once again. Complications upon complications. Victor silently appeared at her side, nudging her somewhat, his face with a sly smirk, like he knew something she did not.
Kaze always tried her best to be composed and serious in almost all situations, but that smirk riled her up to no end.
"Yes?"
She finally spoke, without removing her eyes from the horizon, trying to appear deep in thought.
He smiled, stopped walking and looked her in the eyes with soft determination How beautiful you look in the afternoon light He said as he pulled her close for a gentle kiss before whispering in her ear I think you'd make a wonderful mother, his eyes diverting to Helena for a moment as he pulled back from her before returning his gaze to Kaze maintaining his smile and giving her hand a quick reassuring squeeze.
