Key factor being the people developing and working behind the Imperialist side, I'd wager too.

We are counting kills for both sides, and the side with most kills will get something in story. The event result is still mostly fixed, but depending on player effort one side will gain some advantage.
I'd like you to kindly, stop for a moment and think about the terms of having any sort of reward outcome with how imbalanced and poorly run this event is.
The Federalists have an issue with only having 3 dockable bases, their "allies" the Bundschuh are unable to allow docking to them (And vise versa), not to mention Imperial Military capital ship patrols also frequent said 3 dockable bases. Federalists are unable to organise properly let alone safely thanks to Imperial capital ship patrols or bases existing in Federalist zones.
Not to mention that our method of getting people to join the federalist side is nothing short of FUBAR, considering the steps are:
1) Start as Imperial Military to get the ships and equipment you need
2) Get someone else to buy you an Federalist ID, which is a hassle
3) Find a safe zone (which none exist)

And you say theres a reward outcome for this?
I get this side of the argument, and it was the logic behind not having a result based on results.
People complained, quite loudly. So we thought up a relatively small outcome, not something ridiculous, that gives at least something for doing well.
One side being too strong is of course an issue, but it has always been thus. Last event we did, the Coalition vs BAF event, Coalition outnumbered BAF by about 2 to 1, which in a capship fight that was set in a single hour was quite harsh on the BAF side (wish this was a week long event too but what can you do).
Dont worry, we wont blow up a battleship over the result.

I am sorry, but I want to remind that The Coalition almost lost a battle in 49 even with numbers 2 to 1.
