In the past week this has come up twice where someone has said that Corsairs may not attack anybody within 5k of a zoner base. This I have not heard about and is not mentioned in the OPG code of conduct. First time I came across it was when I witnessed a pissing match between a corsair and merc in a BH gunship. It was basiclly a stand off to see who would leave first and was counterproductive to any sort of reasonable RP.
So my question is this: is this and actual faction law or are the masses confused? I would like to hear from the elders about this one.
Is it a rule? No. Should you pirate vessels within 5k of a Freeport? No. In RP the corsairs and the Zoners have a delicate relationship, and out of respect for Zoners and their freeports (which we corsairs get lots of supplies from) Corsairs should avoid pirating in a zone around the Freeport. TAZ has a rule for O49, and the AW tried to make all of theta a pirating free zone, but that is how we got to a war with AW, and they haven't been able to enforce it. But because the Zoners are so decentralized, there is no one rule for all Freeport's.
Zoners enforce a nuetral area around their freeports. In some cases they say 2k, some they say 5.
Regardless, attacking anyone near a freeport will get you hunted by zoners... and they have big ships. The reasoning is that any hostile fire near a freeport can cause damage to that freeport, the zoners are merely protecting their stations.
I understand the RP reasoning behind it and OPGs rule about pirating in theta. My question was about attacking. Say an outcast was right next to FP 11? What would you do?

I would attack, unless there was a bigger Zoner ship there to stop me.
Consider this a "Gentleman's" Agreement if you will - it is not an official rule, and in all honesty you wont be cautioned by Corsairs until we receive an official edict or complaint from the Zoners themselves.
However, we do enjoy their hospitality on freeports, so we dont like to go out of our way to anger them.
