Today, today is my birthday.. I'm Sixteen so now I can begin my training. My parents are sending me off to flight school, its operated by a former fighter pilot of the Rheinland Military. I hope to be able to one day travel the stars and explore, but for now I will take the chance to leave for a year and try to become the best pilot I can.
~Six Months Later~
"Eyes open, we are reaching an asteroid field."
"Copy that, Scanners seem to be going nuts."
"This is Capt. Fritz, we have a potential Hessian attack two waves approaching!"
"I repeat this is Capt. Fritz, we have a potential Hessian attack two waves approaching!"
"Okay, Kruger. Its gonna get messy, take off and fly evasive patterns in the asteroid field and keep going until I give the all clear."
"Affirmative"
I throttle up and take a hard cut towards the field as the Hessians swarm the lasers fly past me as Capt. Fritz lit up two fighters. I make it into the field and the pursuant Hessians regroup to go after Fritz. I get far enough out that my scanners are clear and I hear a direct comm open.
"Kruger, I hope you made it out okay. I don't think I will make it. Try to get back to the station. I'll meet you th..."
"Capt. Fritz!"
~Static~
As I begin my flight back towards the station a stray solar flare strikes and for a brief moment my shields and controls are disabled. I smack nose first into a large rock as I spin out a second larger rock smashes into my thrusters and now I know I'm a sitting duck.
----Cockpit turns red----
Oxygen levels dropping.
Power levels zero
Eminent hull decompression
Ejecting.
The cockpit shakes and what felt like a cannon I'm launched out of the ship into an escape pod, the pod zips past most of the rocks as the ships small thrusters make small adjustments to avoid the larger ones.
"This is the automated AI for your escape pod, your location beacon has been transferred to the nearest station"
Without warning the escape pod smashes into a large rock and once it rolls off I see a small crack now right in the middle of the glass. It slowly is spider webbing and I know my time is short. I hookup my suit to the emergency oxygen hose and prepare for what will be the last moments of safety. The glass shatters and I can feel my body being pulled but the seat isn't budging, the pain on my chest is getting tighter, my vision begins to fade and I feel a forever dark closing in around me. I now know this is how I die... Alone... Floating in space, the last thoughts before I fade away is of my family, and friends back on Holstein.
