I was on at time, and i know the situation. He was chased out of new york to cali. They both logged off at 1 point, and the server crashed.
I was always told if they log off 4 hour's were void. If server dies/restart's 4 hour's are void.
The same person who tried to rule lawyer to him also tried the same with me. At the same time.
I was in my outcast fighter. Just messing around with mine's, and i blew myself up by accident(just dumped some scrap so sheilds were down). Decided to goto my order char to do a transfer.(yes he entered NY) After doing my transfer i ran into this [M] guy (literally. while typing i rammed him by accident) Seeing as last 3 encounter's with [M] they fired on me without a word i repayed the favor, and he ran away into debris.I then left NY, and for 3 system's he yelled at me saying i could not switch character's because my outcast died in NY.Well my outcast was not fighting him, and i blew my self up.Also rule lawyering for 15 min and 3 system's away i thought was a big nono. He was just P.O.d and looking for trouble i think.
If you die, dock or run away from a fight you must leave the system via logging off or physically leaving.
When you leave you may not return for four full hours or until the victor has left the system whichever is shorter.
You may not re-engage the victor in any system for four hours but they may engage you.
If they engage you, you are allowed to defend yourself per the self defense rules.
What if you have no idea who or what killed you? I have, without warning, found myself with no shields and rapidly plummetting hull integrity with no apparent cause. Was it a glitch? Was it a pilot in an Arwing pummelling me with minirazors? Was it one of the many capital ships that I can't see shooting at me? NPCs don't kill me that fast...
I don't know.
What do I do in these situations, oh all-powerful Del?

Judging by your "facts", you don't know the situation at all. The Rogue was not chased out of the system, they left on their own accord as they had fled a fight. Also, they were not followed to California (you didn't, but others did assume this), the LI Gunboat went there in pursuit of a known smuggler but retreated upon radar contact with the two bombers. Furthermore, neither logged off...the LI Gunboat remained in NY after leaving Cali whilst the BH Gunboat pursued the smuggler, per a contract, to the other end of Sirius before coming back to NY for payment. These are the facts of the matter and don't try to say otherwise because I know exactly how it went.

No offense, but this doesn't actually answer the question.
' Wrote:If you don't attempt to interpret the rules then you can't follow them.
You can read the rules as they are written. But people ATTEMPT to interpret the rule DIFFERENTLY than what is actually written. There are those that try to loophole the rules to the point they abuse them.
For example ... a pilot in a fighter loses a fight and "thrusters away". He has not entered "cruise" ... so he interprets this as though he can re-engage. But in fact ... he's actually running away (and even shield running). So we have the same result. If you cruise, dock or whatever ... he's "running" from the fight and is no longer permitted to re-engage. Many have attempted to thrust away and claim they can attack again. If there is a question about a rule ... ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION ... if its not explicitly written ... take it up with admins. But don't go violating a rule because you've found a loophole. Nobody likes that garbage. There's no role play in it and it smacks of PVP whoring.

Ryoken ... um ... there was no server crash between the time he ran from me and we got involved in this lengthy discussion. Nobody logged off. I never chased Onyx to California. He left and myself (A'den Jango) and LNS Plymouth ignored him. Instead ... I went out to collect a bounty on a smuggler in Dublin ... just happened to travel through California. I returned to New York after completing my task and found Onyx had returned. Then we get in this lengthy argument in private channels about re-engagement. He didn't quite understand that the 4 hour restriction is a hard 4 hour restriction. The only thing he's allowed to do if I leave a system is return to it. But he still cannot engage me for 4 hours.
Now for your issue. You said you "mined" yourself outside combat ... ok whatever. Then you jump from your light fighter, bomber or whatever into your Osiris and come hunting me. Ok ... if you wanna call it role play ... fine. But avoid typing while you're on a collision course with my ship. Getting rammed while I'm in a heated discussion with Onyx was a bit unsettling. I'm typing and next I know I'm spinning out of control ... then my shields go to zero and my hull drops 25%. You (in your non-Osiris character) injected a few words through private channels with regard to this re-engagement discussion. Why you chose to swap into a bigger ship and come after me ... only you know.
I understand you have a "role play" reason to attack [M] with your Order character. But I find it poor taste to be in the same system as one of my enemies and swap to a heavier class ship to fight him. But this seems to be the way people gain their victories. I've seen many traders dock on a base or planet when they see my pirate is in the same system they are traveling through ... then they swap to their bounty hunter battle cruiser and drive me off long enough to get back onto their transport and get their cargo to safety. Granted ... I never got close enough to the trader to make any demands or do him harm ... but this is a cheap trick I've encountered on numerous occasions. If you read the rules ... this is perfectly legal since they're not trying to seek revenge on me. But its a bit of a loophole that is being exploited. When I role play ... I'm in my character till I either dock and go do something completely different or get destroyed. I've only got one pirate and one mercenary. I've got one Order character and two Smugglers/Traders.
Ok ... done ranting. But the rules were designed so everyone can enjoy the game ... its about fair play and fun. You can't have either when people abuse the rules and search for loopholes.
Tell me this Ryoken ... why is it there's a rule that limits a pirate to a gunboat or smaller craft? After answering that ... explain why its ok for everyone that hunts pirates to be in battle cruisers, battleships and the like?
Here's a hint ... a pirate in a battlecruiser would melt a transport in under 30 seconds ... something that happens to us mercs and pirates all the time. Where's the fun in that? Where's the fun in spontaneous combustion?
EDIT: Andre DelArco mentions that instance where spontaneous combustion occurs.

As i tried to tell you in game, and repeated here. I did not switch to hunt you. I went to my order char, and brought it from Kappa to transfer nomad gun's to my storage dhip. Ryokens_Storage_Barge in NY. After i did this i was cruising away when i saw your [M] ship. I was flying in your direction and was typing when you ran across my path.As everyone know's it is very hard to type, and suddenly change direction in a BS.I did type i was coming for you(if you missed it in your tirade not my problem), then i hit you with inferno's(reason your sheild's dropped) and began firing. You ran off into debris so i broke off, and headed home.
You continued to argue all the way to Kappa, that i can not change ship's to hunt you. This i did not do. I have said it now 3 time's, so let it go pls.

Before you say "Stay out of New York," this also happens in Magellan...
Sorry ... using you as an example of what happens when you're in a significantly smaller ship than the guy that jumps you. Kinda like a gunboat shooting a starflea.

#1 ... I was stationary when you rammed me ... drifting with engines down at worst.
#2 ... How am I supposed to know you came to transfer stuff to your vessel ... btw ... what's the Order Osiris doing transferring equipment to a cargo ship above Manhattan? Guess RP is on hold for that eh?
#3 ... You knew I was there and you knew I was in deep heated discussion with Onyx. Admit it ... you took advantage of my distraction.
#4 ... Good to know Order are friendly to pirates ... I've been arguing that point for a long time. Order are neutral to piracy ... their attention should be concentrating on Nomads and the Wild. I seem to remember you saying something about Bounty Hunters and such being of little concern to Order (see the Sigma 13 thread).
#5 ... [M] are not bounty hunters ... we're Mercs. You said something about [M] attacking you the other day. Could you be just seeking revenge? Don't worry ... I'm not saying you broke any rules. Never did. I'm just sick of all these low class attacks. Everybody's gotta come out with the heavy artillery. I suppose I would too if I were allowed to fly a battleship. But guess what ... largest ship I have is a container transport ... most effective weapons platform I have is my Rogue gunboat. Oh ... and my Rogue gunboat (Pirate ID'd) stays clear of house planets and such. I don't have a "storage barge" in hostile territory. Heck ... I don't even have a storage barge.
