Talking, fine, i most times (unless im suddenly swarmed on my fighter/bomber) do it. I actually even give warnings every couple minutes so the hostiles surrender (LNS Las Vegas) even while engaged. But things like that, "im not doing anything wrong NOW, though i pirated 10 ships and killed 15 naval pilots yesterday, so let me alone around this tradelane" doesn't make much sense, does it?
No, but you don't go charging in with all guns firing at him with dozen other silent ships at your side (not saying you do that). Get some warning, do a bit of talking. Few lines, not a Shakespeare in system now, but also not a single word. He might get away that is true, but the goal is not getting that blue death message. The goal is to have some RP and fun.
Again, not aimed at you.
That is true, but no sane military would send half of a battlefleet on a lone pilot. Also what military would bother with some petty pirate? Think of the costs needed to get a fleet in space and to attack a lone fighter let's say.
And even a military can say few lines in system, and get some RP going. This is not RL, it's a fun game, or it should be.
Blunt you're not getting it, we are not asking for a ten line sonnet. Just that once your in that 9.8k when your opponent can see you and knows there's about to be a fight, perhaps something better than engaging could be said, when you're passing through sigma 13 perhaps something could be said full stop. Yes militaries are strict disciplined troops, but as Jura said if you really want to RP a military properly you don't fly unless you're either at war or patrolling your borders. Have never yet seen an Army officer chasing a petty thief through the streets of Birmingham it has to be said.
Saint Del is considered a holy healer of diseases of children, but also as a protector of cattle.
In other words, instead of just "Engaging", use the time it takes to get from sensor range to weapon range, to come up with a more elaborate, RP equivalent. Zone 21 for example, instead of "Engaging" or "Engaging trespasser", why not "PersonX you are in violation of the Liberty Penal Code and will be destroyed". Doesn't take much longer to type and is orders of magnitude better for RP.
' Wrote:To Pirates: Ask for lower amounts. If the bounty on the LN and BHG is only 1 mil per GB OR BOMBER, WHY would you expect MORE for a tax?
Because an Advanced Train can make up to 6 million per run?
No longer active online due to a dwindling amount of non-PvP (trading, pirating, mining, etc.) fun in the new version.
For the most part in the zone I do...however......some of you have been here long enough,or just dont care anyway, engage cruise as soon as you leave the gate.
You know your not supposed to be there in the first place....so..rather than try to type while you just fly away, I will shoot first..unless you DO comply with one word...Halt.
If you stop, then the rp will commence...otherwise...I will shoot...everytime.
Oh..and for the people who think I pirate..wrong answer.Navy dosen't pirate...we kill pirates....and smugglers, unless they wish to give-up,then they are apprehended. But most seem to have a death wish.
This isn't role play calculus but it works well. Its better than "engaging," or "Die Scum," or "Halt" and its short and sweet.
So, mixing role play with PvP on Disco requires two things:
Economy of typing and colorful expression.
Can you do it better than the 7 year old video game?
Another point: when NPCs encounter natural enemies (red HUD) they say:
"This is So and So Black 19 engaging So and So Yellow 10."
You don't have to engage your opponent in verbal fencing just to pick a fight, you just have to come up with a more colorful way of saying it than the NPCs do. Think of what your pilot would truely say if he/she encountered a sworn enemy that he/she has standing orders to destroy?
Speak in code if you have to:
"Sandman, this is Blackwilly, putt'n the heat on."
-Anything more colorful than what NPCs say is acceptable to me. Lets not put the rules of this server out of the reach of people who can't type fast.
-Anything longer than a single phrase is impractical in the game. Complicated role play can be done but only in organized, pre-planned events.
-play in groups, join factions. When there is more than one person you can have your mates work the gaming strategy while you provide the role play.

...actually, yes...somebody tried to pickpocket my cousin while he was on vacation for Christmas last year...(not Birmingham, mind)
Anyways, this is a bad idea. I wasn't going to post, but I think it needs to be reiterated just how much work the Admins are about to make for themselves. This is like the original cap registration on steroids. There will be HUNDREDS of reports JUST on his every week. Besides which, I'm quite inclined to agree with the angry mob. I don't make a habit of talking at all until I've been blown up and need to RP ejecting or I've killed everybody in the area. (unless I'm on the Cash Cow or something). No, I will not use Local Chat. No, I will not take time out of my very busy trading schedule to yak with the pirate I just escaped. I am going to yell my head off for the police whilst running full-tilt towards the mooring fixture. Cinematecist policy is flawed.
