::A slow, deep, almost mournful sound fades into existence in the subconscious of your mind::
Woah, a spirit?
::Images of a child standing alone in the middle of a field flow through your mind::
I'll listen....
::The image slowly gets closer to the child's face. It's a young girl::
Hmm...What's wrong?
::The child's face shows expressions of sadness, fear, desperation::
Why is she sad? Can I help? ::Her eyes dart to and fro, she turns bodily, but never leaves the spot in the center of the field::
You're....searching? For who? For what?
::Other beings fade in and out of the scene. Some tall, some short, some old, and some young as herself. But none of them had a face::
Hmm...Please, show me more spirit.
::The faceless ones disappear, to be replaced by a few adults::
You're looking for your...parents? Relatives? ::The child's eyes lock onto the adults that appeared. She bows towards them and starts walking::
I see.....Hmm...
::They don't move, but with each step the girl takes, the adults move away just as far::
You....can't reach them?
::The melody in the back of your mind starts to pick up speed, hauntingly matching the tempo of the girl's heartbeat:: ::She starts walking faster, desperation setting in. The adults never get closer::
Tell me more please. I want to help.
::She begins to run now. The adults show no emotion on their faces. They just watch her attempts. She is crying now::
Why....Why can't you reach them.
::One of them speaks. It is a deep, booming voice that seems to resonate from everything around her:: "You do not have the knowledge that is required to walk with us, child."
::The child speaks...:: ***...Knowledge?...***...Eternity...Seeking...Knowledge..*** "You must fully awaken.....before you can walk our path...."
::The booming voice begins to fade, along with the adult figures::
"Soon...Soon you will be awakened."
::The little girl runs as fast as she can after the fading figures, tears streaming from her eyes:: ***...Yearning.......Reborn...** ::The figures smile, nod, and vanish from her sight::
***...Wait...Want...Seek...Yearn...Knowledge...Reborn...Awakened...***
I wish to help you, young spirit.
::The girl, tears obscuring her vision, trips and falls to her hands and knees:: ::The music stops abruptly. Soon replaced by a depressing and dreary melody::
I will help you. We will find them again...We will show them you are ready to be awakened...Spirit.
::The girl stands up and brushes the dirt and grass from her knees and hands. She then turns in the field, and looks up at you in your mind::
Yes spirit? What is it? ::The music fades to an early morning melody, quite and peacefull::
::The girl shows a tiny smile on her face, and she nods at you before holding out her hand in your direction::
***Seek.....Together.....Future...***
We shall Spirit....We shall.
His eyes slowly became unclouded. He rubbed them to remove the odd feeling. Shaking the fuzziness from his mind, the pilot opened the blast shield on his cockpit to take a look around. He groaned as he stretched his legs from the meditative position they had been frozen in for the past hour. Grabbing the controls of his Sabre, he turned it towards the docking ring of planet Malta. As he did so, the sun glinted off of his dog-tags, they read: "{SOB}Pendragon[A] - Leofwine Pendragon - 1st Lt."
"Ground Control, this is Lt. Pendragon requesting permission to dock."
"Evening sir, this is ground control, you're clear to land."
"Roger, Pendragon Out."
Leo docked his ship, nodded to a standing officer, and headed to the barracks while the officer cleaned, prepped, and restocked his ship for it's next flight. He made his way to his room in the barracks without incident. Only a few nods at the officers saluting as he passed, and he was home. He boots were off and kicked to the side of the door moments later, and his jacket was over the back of a chair.
A few hours later...
Leo sat up, sweet dripping off his chin and flinging from the tips of his hair. He couldn't get comfortable at all. The only thing on his mind was what he observed earlier that day. The feeling of the mindlink that was established earlier was still there; in the subconscious of his mind, he felt that barely noticeable, but insistent, pulling.
He piled the pillows behind himself, and leaned back. He thought about the recent events, and what they all meant to him. What was the significance of this spirit contacting him? Why him? He had better than average fighting skills, but other than that, nothing else really set him apart from the rest of humanity. So why had this spirit chosen him to help her?
Leo fell out of bed and jumped to his feet, his heart pounding in his chest. His alarm was blaring at his bedside, telling him it was time to get his ass moving before the Colonel kicked it around Alpha for being late. He burst out of his room, smacking his shoulder into the sliding door as it slid open; too slow for Leo. His shirt was on, his boots were tied together and hanging over his neck, his socks were on, One pulled up, the other hanging loosely around his ankle. His pants were in his hands as he pulled one leg through while hopping on the other.
Five minutes later, Leo was shooting through the mooring ring, exiting Malta's atmosphere. "Get to Yanagi now, kid. The sooner you get there, the less I'm going to kick your ass. You're late."****.... He slammed his Sabre into cruise and shot towards the Beta Jump Hole. Like the Colonel had said, the sooner the better.
"Yeeeehaaaaw!!!," Leo yelled over his comm system, speeding through the recent explosion of a GMG vessel. His krakens finding the wings of another unfortunate pilot, stripping him of his shields, and ending his life with cannon ball missile to his cockpit. "An unfortunate event for you to call me out like that, young GMG." Leo killed his engines, letting his ship slide silently next to his Colonels and stopping within 5 meters of him. "I'm here Colonel. What's the orders?"
