I have always loved mining in the disco universe. Even before disco, I mined for fun in omega 11 daimond fields. I have always been a hardcore mining advocate.
like trading, mining is becoming a new economic option in disco. Look at trading, there are a plethera of transports big, small, and in between. But with mining on the rise, it hurts me only too see few viable mining ship options. These options are limited too; the basalt LF(yeah... right), the decite HF, the mafic SHF, the spatail SHF, and the hegemon. mabye the GMG miner count, but your RP limits you with GMG ships. thats only 5 ships!!!
I suggest that each house and independant (economic) faction, should have their own "nationalized" miner.
a rhienland miner for daumann and kruger
a liberty miner for agira and DSE
a bretonia miner for BMM and mabye planetform
a kusari miner for kishiro and samura
GMG already have a miner
and an IMG miner
and a big MABYE border worlds series miner for outcasts and a corsair's miner
i dont mean to kill the hegemon, but it makes more sence that in war time diffrent nations would find it hard to maintain and biuld one single model multi national ship. also it would help make the ecomonys of the houses gain more depth, seeing the ships that produce, not just haul items from unknown origin.
However, i still think the hegemon is an obese pie-rat magnet.. thats just a personal opinion though
Man that is so true there just needs to be more options for mining
Like you i also am a heavy miner and the limited mining ships are killing me
If you want to mine by yourself you are forced to use the Hegemon and that is a major pirate target
They should make a miner that can hold its own until back-up can arrive
Aye. And a Mining ship need not be the size of a small moon either... Not to mention there is something seriously wrong with the Heg. Everytime I shoot up a cloud of dust, it starts swivelling in all different directions of its own accord - I presume it is bumping into the dust particles...
i was observing that, when the heg shoots rocks, you see right above the little "head" of the ship, the rocks and dust hit the head (that you can't see when in first person) so it starts to move on its own from the rocks and dust pushing on the head
Indeed, With all these Factionalized and House Freighters, transports, and trains running about you would think that miners might be that way too...
It is sad to see what little Disco has to offer in the way of miners. Yes, some people might argue that we don't -need- more miners. The would be correct in a narrow, technical manner of speaking. But if it is like that, then why all the house transports?
I think that having more choices in mining craft would greatly improve the discovery experience just as the great amount of choice with Transports and freighters have with the trading industry.
Eh, the Heg? The problem with it is that it's supposed to be, originally, a stationary entity. Much more of a possibility to just pulverize asteroids and have on-board ore facilities (IE the green/yellow smoke clouds emitted from NPC stationary ones) and let the trading vessels carry the processed material off to a larger facility and/or sell it. So, in a around-about way, heavy-duty mining requires more than one vessel, which is both a problem RP-wise like capital ships. So, the only real way to get around the dynamics is to put them both together, probably be classified as light mining utilities since they would be compacted in their design to take on light loads and carry it off to a given destination.
I'm all for more mining vessels, maybe the next mod upgrade/version ship models will be dedicated mainly to this field. Hoping in an indirect way of a remodel of that nasty-looking Spatial that I want to blast away every time I see one, no matter what character I am in, heheh.

Variety of such things is good. Houses with the resources to make their own brand of transports would certainly at least look into making their own mining vessels tailored to the conditions in which they mine.

yes that is exactly what im talking about, one mining transport is simply not enough! each House can have individual miners, tuned to their own mining styles. such as mabye liberty using smaller more numerous miners, while rhienland uses large expencive miners.
