I just seen what one of those freighters can do, lucky it was me and DBoy, it was a close call for any single Viper like DBoy's... it was moving like a HF, definately.
@Quintinius: it's not that no one found out, it was they kept quiet and exploited the fact.

Might I suggest that we're gettin' a bit "pissy" about this?
How long have these ships been around, since what version?
I spent pretty good bucks to put a couple of my characters into some of the ships in question; now I'm being made to feel like I'm some sort of "cheater" or being dishonest because I've flown them around without baring my soul to someone about how zippy they are.
I haven't flown every ship in Discovery... yet it seems I'm being expected to know what's "appropriate".
Fine.. whatever. If someone wants to reimburse me the expense of acquirin' em, I'll be glad to "nerf" my playing experience just so someone doesn't feel slighted.
Mal-disposed, you, the least of anyone should complain about the costs, please! At least ingame money is not a problem for your lot of characters.
I wasn't getting at you, I was getting at people that were using tools like Datastorm to just find 'the best' ship out there. At least to my knowledge, you weren't exploiting those ships in that way. Or were you?
You seem the one to be 'pi$$y' about it... engage the Pineal mate... compare the experience otherwise... 5 tons of flax.

Okey, ya got me. Flax isn't the issue. I got half a billion tons scattered about somewhere...
And no, i wasn't usin' anything but Roger Readme.. and the ol' fashion "hope I can land, buy it, fly it, try it, and see if i like it.
Dis was flyin' the "Hummer" weeks ago. If anything, for an old fart like me, it's too agile. Leave the zippy thing to the young turks with better reflexes, and give me somethin' slow and bullet-proof.
I agree in the next mod, lots of ships need to be fixed. LFs are too strong, and HFs need to be changed so that ppl actually use them.
I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.
RP Story (Still deciding whether or not to finish)
I don't think LF's are too strong, if they were any weaker, they would suck and no-one would use them. If they are going to get changed, only take away armour, not guns or anything.
@Quintinius. Take away armor, not guns, you say... hmm,
you wouldn't survive the NPCs in some places if the armor went down
a number of those ships have buggy/tiny hitboxes (ex. Slipstream) and are generally unhittable
you would still have the
class9 shield + be unhittable enough to not penetrate your shield
class9 weapons + doing way too much damage on your own

Well now, I wouldn't say that the LFs need to be toned down. The biggest problem on them is the hitbox, and that's only on a few of them. I find the House Mk II LFs to be quite equal to many other ships in the game.
Just a few weeks back, I, in my Wyrm, engaged Dab, in his Eagle. The fight was quite "balanced", as you might call it here. I was able to dodge many of Dab's shots, but in doing so, lost opportunities to fire on him. The shots that did hit me dealt quite a bit of damage, but not enough of them did hit to kill me. Meanwhile, I use the Wyrm's agility to get behind Dab and fire on him. However, with the lesser number of guns on my LF and the lowered weapons class, I couldn't get past his Class-10 HF shield unless I sat and pounded him for about ten seconds straight-- by which time Dab could turn around and blow me to pieces, so that was out of the question. After about 20 minutes or so, I just decided to leave the fight. And so began the "KSP Pays for Safe Return of Hostages" news story. But that's something else entirely...
So it all comes down to this: LFs can move faster, but deal less damage. HFs and VHFs move slower, but deal more damage. Even in LFs that have Class 9 gun mounts, it's still difficult to take down a good HF shield.
So unless the definition of "balanced" has changed from "Virtually equal in a fair fight" to "Light Fighters must be weak and easier to kill", then I would say that things are balanced as they are. I think that the real reason that people are complaining about Light Fighters is because of those few that have hitbox problems. So please, don't bring all LFs in general into this.:)
Ohh... there's something else I wanted to say, I'm sure of it... but I can't remember. Well, it is 4 AM over here. My brain's running on caffiene. I dunno, I guess that's all I have for now.
The house mk2 LFs have to gang up on NPC mk2 house VHFs, otherwise by the time you drop the shield, do some hull damage, it's wingmates have turned you into a pretty fireball.
Plus it only takes 8 house mk2 VHFs to cripple/kill a player VHF fairly quickly, if 16 turn up, your as good as dead.
The only thing the mk2 house LFs have is their agility.
