Assuming suitable permission is given by the RM high command for obtaining one of their cruisers, then yes it may be commissioned. Await RM's reply before proceeding with the matter further.
Sir, it appears that I've been rejected by the RM, they have said my rank isn't high enough to warrant selling me a new Cruiser. Request permission to look into other cruisers.
Kinda out.

Ok, after reading a little bit of a rank translation problem with the RM (that they have ranks for different class ships etc) and having had discussions in the past with some members regarding this. Do we want to devise a re-work on our ranking system? (dun...dun...dun...)
Currently, the ranks are more distinction of roles within the SF (Trainees are learning our ways and proceedures, Lieutenants are general members, Captains are those more involved and tend to command/recruit more, Commodores are those whom I look to for counsel or run ideas by and act as second in commands, Admiral the big cheese who deals with everything and is accoutable). Now the advantage with this setup was that a trainee can come in and use a cap-ship or fighter if they choose, which is great for those joining from other factions or being in discovery for a long time. Also works for those who don't like flying fighters or vice versa cap-ships, gives everyone choice in their ships.
Now if we were to implement a ranking/ship class system I would likely make it as follows:
Trainee - Fighters Only (No Bomber, SFF) Lieutenant - Gunboats Down (SFGB and down, requires fighter has BAF guard friendly rep and either BAF or BAF Guard tag) Commander - Cruisers Down (SFBC and down, recommendation by fellow members and at least one Commodore+) Captain - Anything (may request ships from other Friendly factions, approval by all Commodores and Admirals) Commodore - Anything (Decision Maker Rank, based on experience, time served, desired involvement) Admiral - Anything (There can be only one)
The drawback is that a new member wishing to join by changing names would either have to be given a suitable rank or have to get another char going with a fighter and be a trainee. The giving of a rank would work well for those familiar with discovery but wouldn't indicate that the player was in fact new to the SF and our procedures (could maybe fix that with a TRN designation after the rank). Captains and up would be the command level and would be expected to deal with recruiting issues/questions.
Any thoughts, ideas, opinions? Feel free to propose different ranks but try to confine it so as not to have say more than 10 different ranks:wacko:
Two questions before I respond in full. Would the structure of command change for example, would there be a more even distribution of rank, or would the majority of people still be a Lt.?
Secondly, would promotions be via forum ID, characters, or some other means?
Kinda out.

It would be applied to forum char (ie the rank would be applied to the person behind the computer:cool:, this could translate to into the highest rank you could give one of your characters). I would think that the majority of people would bottleneck around Captain and Commander in terms of rank distribution seeing that they'd need the recommendation of other members. We could also implement a maximum number for certain levels if desired (say max 10 captains or something).

I think the rank system we have now is more flexible. If SF is one of the oldest factions I think,"If it ain't broke don't fix it" I think you could maybe set a max for ranks and maybe add more ranks. If you do the basic rank system I think you should indeed have it fixed around vet players to where they are able to choose a vehicle. I think it brings in more recruits. One down side to say someone have alot of money to spend on a ship and wont wanna join and if they are acepted with the ship they choose it would give them a higher rank over someone who has been in SF longer if rank was dependent on what class ship you have. Anyway the main point to this is I think we should tweak our rank system a bit. It gives the recruit flexibility and its attractive to those looking to join a faction. Anyway thats my opinion.
Looks like a good idea to me. Enforcement of ranks would aid RP and increase battle effectiveness.
I just won't be able to fly my cruiser for a while, but thats okay.
Sounds like a good idea. It would also be nice to see more responsibilities put on the ranks of Lt and up, much as the SCRA does, for example one position could be in acquiring equipment, and another training new recruits, and possibly one in charge of recruitment. I do think that the requirement for Commander should be changed to just recommendation by peers and at least one captn.
