Now there is a few things in o41 that tell the tale of a bunch of omega-IMGers trying to establish a diamond mining operation.
It failed due to radiation and corsair, but what remained still leaves questions unanswered.
First off, I'm missinf freeport 5's original name - it used to be a mining depot of the guild, no initially intended as a freeport. despite my best efforts, I couldn't find that name.
Second - the IMG clydesdale wreck independence has diamonds as loot. That means the miners DID find gems in o41. How is it, that to date there's not even a promise of an exploitable field?

Maybe they carried them to 41 from 11?
Maybe they had to work for 3 months to get those few diamonds, just not worth it then.
The field was abandoned because the conditions were too hazardous to the workers. Remember - IMG more then any other mining faction tries to provide a place where their workers can work in relative safety. Both Freeport 5 and Leon in their descriptions note that the people living on those bases need a steady supply of anti-radiation meds (pharmaceuticals). Not to mention insane Corsair activity would make running shipments to that base troublesome.
As for the original name, I don't think it was ever defined in lore. It'd have been a german-y name though, considering the occupants would have been Rheinlanders, probably ex-Kruger (similar to Freistadt).

Most likely they were breaking up the larger asteroids to extract materials, using Heggies. That said, it wouldn't be a bad place to drop a small diamond field (northwest of the neutron star perhaps?). Problem is, who would be mining it? Daumann if suicidal, considering that system has both Hessians and Corsairs in liberal amount, and the rest of the factions doesn't get a bonus for diamonds.

Pioneering a more direct route via jumpholes from Omega 11 to Honshu. We used it many times with D:
maybe we could sneak in a small blood diamond field for the Hessians in there. The location seems a bit outside corporate space anyways, and they are illegal so it is not like any House Miners could use the field

Mining for commodities is problematic. The dropped goods need to be seperate from the traded commodity.

Not neccesarily. It's not the case for Alien Artefacts or Scrap Metal. But considering Blood Diamonds are just raw diamonds worked over in a particular Hessian way (if I'm not misstaken), it doesn't make sense for the blood diamonds to be mined elsewhere.
