I have a Vodafone 845 which uses Android. I've been very pleased with it so far.
[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.

There is also a question: do you want a physical keyboard? If 'yes' or 'maybe' is the answer, I would wait for Nokia N9. See how it turns out. Or you can go for HTC Desire. iPhone is the only gadget capable of doing everything and nothing at the same time.
My HTC Aria will be activated in 6 days. AT&T bought my old provider, so I will be switching from a brick of a Blackberry Curve, to a lovely sleek and sexy HTC Aria.
Though the Samsung androids are pretty sleek too, can't remember which my dad got (it's the one I wanted, but my plan only allowed the HTC Aria for an android) and my roomate is getting the Samsung Eternity II, both looked great.
HTC desire Z has a physical keyboard that slides down. It's a pure win.
But seriously Cannon, look into tablets too. If I had a choice, it would be a tablet.
If you consider that while going out you need just a) texts and b) phonecalls because everything else is rude (beer with friends, nope, you're checking your youtube or facebook - uncool) and for all other places you can be no one will look you weirdly if you have a tablet.
Well Cannon, I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. But for Xmas, I got a Blackberry bold . .
Now I'm just a dumb Ole Red-neck with a smart phone ( That doesn't sound right, does it?) and I never used any other, but I did talk to some folks that do . . .
Blackberry: from the folks I talked to, it has the best voice clarity and sound in making calls (compaired to people that has I-phone, droids, etc . .)
It can do the email, internet stuff, etc. (not as good as the others, I-phone / droids are better on that from what I hear) . . .
One thing I have to say about the bold is that is has a kick butt sound when playing music on the speakers . . (even better than the lap top I'm using) . .
overall, I think you would like it . .
Oh, and the camera is decent. not as good as some of them droids, but it does ok
