I have two computers connected to a router with two different FL ID's but cannot connect to the same server when my son and I want to play together. Is there a port or something that needs to be opened in router. We can connect to the same server but not at the same time.
The upstream side of your router is using a single IP address. Most broadband services don't provide a way for you to have multiple IP addresses unless you pay extra.
"To gain a hundred victories in a hundred battles is not the highest excellence;
to subjugate the enemy's army without doing battle is the highest of excellence."
Who is your ISP, call em up and ask em if this is the case. Aand what model number is your router.
Even if it is the case as suggested, (I highly doubt it), there are ways around it.
A router should allow two PCs to connect thru your ISP to the internet (and Freelancer) at the same time. That's a router's job -- to "route" data to/from the internet to the right PC. (As opposed to a switch, which has no intelligence built in.)
But is the router the problem? Question is, does the FL server block multiple logins from a single IP address? If so, mucking about with the router isn't going to help.
I was under the impression you could (though against the rules) run more than one instance of FL from the same computer, but perhaps this has changed on Disco RP server?
A test from someone with 2 machines on the same IP would sort that out.

Our house had 3 of us playing Freelancer on a regular basis, albeit on a different server. Admin has commented that seperate PCs from same home are perfectly allowed in its rules. What they won't tolerate (but I've seen it) is a player with multiple characters on at the same time.
Dunno how to solve your problem - but it is a problem your end. Sorry
1. What operating system are you using?
2. What is the model and manufacturer of the router?
3. Have you assigned any port forwarding or filtering within the router?
4. Are you using Freelancer Account Manager?
5. Are there any error messages when 1 or both attempt to connect to a server?
Typically when one can connect and the other cant its due to both systems using the same Freelancer account. To verify this there is usually a message about the account currently being in use.
Freelancer does not require any port assignment to the client side at all unless you are running a server. Then there are certain ports that must be opened to allow connection to the global server and outside clients.
There is a readme file in the freelancer main directory, see section XII (not a lot there so dont get your hopes up).
1. Both comps are running Win XP
2. Router is a Network Model NR041
3. DHCP is enabled in router
4. No port forwarding or filtering have been assigned
5. I am using FLAM on one of the comps
6. If one is connected and try to connect with the other I get a cannot connect message and then the other comp will freeze and have to be rebooted
7. They are two different account ID's
8. As stated these are two seperate accounts and we just want to play together on same server and like this Mod(father, son competitive thing you know( he of course thinks he can kick my butt))
9. I suppose we could just do this internally but would be fun to go against others too
Like stated by Taffic it's perfectly possible to play on the same server using different machines each using it's own FLID. Technically there should be no problem, I use my laptop to do transfers between characters whenever I need it, sometimes for specific RP events requiring attendance of several characters at once. Both machines are connected via router (Linksys WRT45GL w/DD-WRT firmware) and share same public static IP.
