Introduction: This thread will be the bases of a SRP that I wish to start. Please keep in mind that English is not my native language. My vocabulary is not a big as most of you.
The Story:
Droid PD392 was not designed to find a cure for cancer, or even to find significant information in the vast amounts of data coming from the big radar array of Omicron-Kappa. No...its simple task was to sort out the different packages, big and small that were stacked in the big postal cargo-ship "Aurora".
The Aurora was a medium sized hauler shaped after the "Pelican"line (see "Pelican" Civilian Armored Transport).
There was nothing wrong with its algorhythms. Until that morning in Omega 41, everything was working just fine...
Captain Ortega of the Republican Shipping corporation had all faith in his first mate John Andersen. How could our poor captain have known that John had a taste for Kusari sake ? John had hid his connection to the Hogosha clan very well... But that day, when the captain descided it would be OK for him to retreat to his quarters a bit earlier the foundation for disaster was laid...
Roughly 3 hours later captain Ortega was woken up by alarmbells ringing everywhere, but by that time it was too late... the vessel had come too close to the neutron star... the radiation had killed half the crew allready... and the other half was on its way...
Being the only survivor (if we may call him that), droid PD392 felt confusion. No more commands were entered into the console. No packages left the cargobay, and no packages were coming in... his neurocircuits were not maintained properly and started to show traces of rust...
For years the postal droid drifted through space, lonely and confused. Until one day the wreckage that he was trapped in appeared on the radar of a AI drone.
The sensitive scanners of the drone showed some form of Artificial Intelligence that needed resqueing. And so it could happen that Droid PD392's processors were recycled and installed into the databanks of one of the first ships in the newest line of AI drones.
How the misfunctioning circuits passed the CQ tests was never found out, but the AI mainframe made it's first mayor mistake in years: installing Droid PD392's circuits. The drone was missing in action on the very first testflight. The Operating System was overtaken by the old -now corrupted- algorhythms of the former postal droid, now completely overtaking all its system functions.
Since the AI kindof went independent... every hauler kept its distance from any of their ships. They knew that AI would mainly focus on Nomads anyway. But the little drone that Andrew McAllister encountered when doing his Alluminium run to Leeds was not after Nomads at all.
Drone PD392 : (metallic voice)"HALT cargo vessel !"
McAllister : "Well.. hello there little one, what can we do for you?" Drone PD392 : "State your name and destination."
McAllister : "Well.. not that its any of your bussiness... but I'm captain McAllister, and this is my crew. We are headed for Leeds. We are honest traders with nothing to hide. Now what is the AI's interest in all this ?" Drone PD392 : "*COMPUTE*LEEDS*BRETONIA* ** *SCANNING FOR PACKAGES*"
McAllister : "Ehh... I didn't order any packages, Sir.. eehh computer... " Drone PD392 : "SILENCE ! A package has been found. You will deliver this crate of Kyushu Rice to Leeds."
McAllister : "I certainly will not ! What's all this crap ? I'm not a delivery-..." Drone PD392 : "SILENCE ! THE PACKAGE MUST BE DELIVERED ! * STATIC * ERROR #$% *"
McAllister : "My dear feller.... I don't know who has been messing with your systems, but we are not gonna deliver any packages for you. Good day to you..." Drone PD392 : "ERROR * ERROR * STOP... VESSEL.... MUST... THE PACKAGE MUST BE DELIVERED... "
The alarm went of imidiately after the drone fired his first shot at the hauler. Before the surprised crew could raise shields and make an evasing manouvre, their defence systems were shot to smithereens by very accurate fire.
And so... Captain McAllister became the first victim of this rogue droid-drone, wandering through Sirius space... but many would follow...
The idea :
I would like to fly around in an AI drone. I would stop haulers that otherwise just mindlessly fly their route and stop them. Then I would either force a package of goods on them or demand a small part of their cargo (wich I will use as a package for the next trader to take with him). When the hauler does not comply I will RP an agressive and violent "mentally" disturbed AI drone and engage...
