Background Information
Sonja was born in 26.6.795 A.S. on planet Denver. Her grandparents used to be Hispanians, but after a while, they grew tired of the life they had on planet Crete. Sonja’s grandfather used to be an influential man. Using his connections, he managed to get clean papers for him and his wife, and both of them moved to Liberty in order to find honest jobs and start a family of their own.
Sonja’s father, Alexander Salvatore, is a very successful businessman, working for the Interspace Commerce company. Her mother, Maria Salvatore, is primarily engaged in housework and family care at home.
As soon as she finished her schooling, Sonja knew what she wanted - making Liberty a better place to live in. Straight away, she went to the military school and soon after, became a Liberty Navy officer. After a few months, she was able to afford a house for herself, on Manhattan planet. Her father wasn’t happy about it, nor he was happy about Sonja becoming a Navy officer. He never wanted her to have a risky job, but he knew he couldn’t do anything about it.
After two years of serving the Navy, she realized it wasn’t nearly as good job as she anticipated. Sonja was always attracted to travelling to distant, unknown systems and exploring them. She had a friend who was working in the Liberty Security Force. One day, Sonja realized that it might be her only chance of achieving something bigger. She arranged a meeting with her friend, and managed to convince him to help her join the LSF. After two and a half years working for the LSF, she was sent on an assignment and nobody heard from her since then.
During a usual patrol around New York system, Sonja received an encrypted transmission from an unknown source, which requested her presence on Kodiak research station ASAP. As much as it was suspicious to her, Sonja didn’t take much time to think, so she immediately changed the course to Zone 21 passage, and went straight into the Alaska system. As she arrived, everything was quiet. Too quiet. Not a single vessel could be seen on a scanner. “Well, this is unusual” - Sonja said, setting the waypoint to Kodiak research station.
After a short flight, she accidentally looked to her left and noticed a bunch of debris floating not so far from her ship. Curiosity was always one of her personality traits, and Sonja couldn’t resist the urge to change her course and check what it was. As she was slowly approaching the debris, she realized that those weren’t some random asteroids floating around, those were the remains of four “Avenger” class fighters.
“Good Lord” - Sonja was shocked. Despite that, she managed to stay calm. She switched to system-wide frequency to see if there’s anyone around, and after a couple of attempts, there was no response. Sonja was looking around through her cockpit and she accidently pressed the tractor beam button. By the time she realized it, it was too late. The unknown item was already in her cargo hold. For a split second after tractoring the item, she heard static over the transmission relay, and her radar started to malfunction. After a while, it came back to normal state, and Sonja immediately headed towards the Kodiak research station.
Suddenly, the station appeared in front of Sonja’s ship out of nowhere. She checked the radar but it was empty, it wasn’t showing the station. Sonja had a really strange feeling, but she was fearless. She acknowledged something was just not right. After many attempts to contact the station, Sonja was certain something happened there and decided to board the station, as one of the hangars was open.
As Sonja boarded the station, one thing became obvious: It was abandoned. She jumped out of her ship and headed straight towards the cargo bay to see what was inside. Sonja didn’t believe her own eyes. It was a perfectly shaped circular, medium sized alien artifact. “What the hell is this thing doing here?” – she said, not expecting any answer. “Alright, let’s see what on earth happened on this station.” – Sonja closed the cargo bay door and headed out of the hangar.
In front of her was a hall as long as one’s view can reach. The lights were going on and off repeatedly, just like in horror movies. Apart from that nothing seemed out of ordinary. The station was Sonja’s second home, so she knew it like her pockets. As she took a better look, she noticed a purple light blinking at the end of the hall. Sonja was wondering if the rumors about increased Nomad activity in Alaska are true. She never faced one, but she heard a lot of stories so she knew how dangerous they are.
Despite that fact, Sonja pulled out her gun and slowly started moving towards the light to check its source. She was trying to reach anyone over the radio, but still, no response was received. As Sonja was getting closer to the source of purple light, a silhouette of a man appeared for a split second, next to the purple light, and it disappeared. “That wasn’t creepy” – she said in a sarcastic tone and kept moving towards it. When Sonja finally approached the source of the light, she was blinded for a second, and she felt a punch to the back of her head, rendering her unconscious.
Sonja woke up, lying on a bed. Her view was very blurry, but it was becoming more and more clear. She was in a dark room, she could barely see anything. After a few minutes of desperately trying to move, Sonja felt a strong pain through her spine, which was spreading all the way to her head. She was screaming in pain, and soon lost her consciousness.
One day later, Sonja woke up and everything seemed normal to her. She looked around, noticing that it’s not the same place as the one yesterday. Sonja stood up and headed towards the door. When she walked through it, it was more than obvious to her as to where she was - Kodiak research station. “Oh my God, wasn’t this place abandoned yesterday?”
She went back to her room, and soon after, a doctor came to check on her. As soon as he opened the door, Sonja asked him what happened to her. “Your ship was found drifting across Alaska with you in it, so you were transported to Kodiak.” Sonja didn’t know what to say, so she asked the doctor to leave her alone for a while. As soon as he turned his back on her, Sonja approached from behind and snapped his neck in a second, and her eyes slightly started to glow purple.
“It is time for us to leave this place. Being here poses a threat to us and our identity.” - Sonja said, as she left the room. In front of her was a long hall. It was a same hall that she saw the day before, but this time, there was no purple light at the end of it. It was full of scientists and engineers, minding their own business. Sonja turned around and headed towards the hangar. As she approached it, she saw a man next to her ship, staring at the cargo bay, with his jaw almost hitting the ground. She immediately knew what he was looking at - a Nomad power cell which she accidently tractored the day before.
Sonja approached the human, hitting him from behind in the head, rendering him unconscious. As she was closing the cargo bay, someone triggered the alarm on station. “They most likely found the doctor, it is time we leave this place.” - With a grin on her face, she entered her ship and left the station. As she was moving away from Kodiak, her ship was slowly disappearing from the Kodiak’s control vision range, into the nebula. Last time Sonja was seen, she was heading towards the northeast part of Alaska.
