(This PoB discussion seems to be a bit off-topic, but...)

Wrong. The fields were turned off with patch 4.87. Before that, activity went down because the fields were almost mined dry after restart, so the people who could play only severel hours after the daily restart, could hardly mine anything. Also, activity decreased even more after the PoBs were turned off due to the DPC PoB killing crysis at the end of 4.86.
Right now, silver ore mining in Humboldt is so slow, it takes 15 mins to fill a Hegemon, not to mention a 5k-er. However, this is due to the very close sellpoint (California); on the other hand, the low drop rate discourages people from mining after they try it for the first time (I saw that happen several times).
I agree that PoBs in the mining field makes pirating harder, but that also can be an inRP purpose of the base. However, if the miners can mine safely, there is more ore on the base for sell, that means more transports, and more targets for the pirates. The PoBs cannot be filled indefinitely, so transports have to show up after a while. So from this viewpoint, it increases the number of piracy targets. If the pirate is crafty enough, he can pull off the piracy in the field despite the presence of the base (happened to me several times in Humboldt).
On topic:
Making an ore type available only in one field does not really help here due to inter-House conflicts. For example, O7 is a good source of copper and silver ore. For example, if you remove the Humboldt fields, DSE will have no place to mine those until Liberty gets at least neutral with Rheinland (and who knows how long will it take, and Kruger/IMG might not even let them mine there). Introducing new ore types, and assigning new mining fields won't help this either, as it will create yet again too many mining fields. I think the best solution would be to re-introduce the price shifts every 2-3 weeks (it is already on; see: http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread...pid1571196) to increase activities in certain areas.
Also, increasing the mining rates back to "normal" (a little bit lower than the max. rate of the 4.86 era) should elevate the enthusiam towards mining. I am very frequent in Humboldt, and I see an imbalance between the number of miners and transports, in favor of the transports. Thus there is hard to find ore on the base, or a miner to get a fillup. I saw that since the field depletion was turned off and the mining rates were lowered, the number of miners decreased significantly.
Omega 9 will be a system that is atm labelled "unclaimed mining system" for the Devs. That means: No house space. No House influence. No NPC bases in it. Irply it has been newly discovered. It is in a thread about the redesign of the Omegas, which I am too lazy to look up now.
Of course there is already roleplay around it, and of course there has to be in-roleplay controversy about Omega 9. But that is why we play the game. If it was happy-nappy-peaceful-ponyfarm, it would not be interesting. Rheinland corps could have also made a claim, but they only yelled for a deletion of the system. *shrugs*
So this is not -my- proposal, aiming to steal fields and put them into IMG territory. It is the continuation of the statement that devs made about what O9 will be like and the roleplay that has been based on these dev statements for the last half year.
Sorry, the rest is too IMG-ranty to reply to seriously, it is furthermore basing on wrong assumptions and a fear of IMG.
Jack
Nobody is talking abouth conspiracy here IMG as a mining faction is well to overpowered entire servers knows it.

And your claim about Omega 9 is unrecognized by most

the fact that people unrecognized it is the goal i think?
as jack said, rheinland could have claim it to, it would have been very nice for the RP with maybe new treaty and all this, but no, they decided to cry to get it deleted instead of RP. It would be logic that IMG get something because the work INRP to get it. (btw: i am not IMG member i dont even have an IMG ship, neutral FTW)
I would like to state here two concerns of mine when I think about the mining system.
One, is the long delayed review of the Raw Hydrocarbon fields in Ta-29 for both Samura and Kishiro. Their low spawn rate, higher danger and weak prices compared to the other mining commodities for those factions (hellium-3 and platinum ore, both in safer locations) detract the faction players from even caring about that region and it's resources. In gameplay terms at least, for there is a production of common hydrocarbons and a brand of fertilizers to compensate in the regular markets.
The second one is how changes in the mining system negatively affect the non-mining house corporations. I still remember half a year ago when IMG was the top faction in the server in terms, in numbers, finances and firepower. At the same time, house corporations which usually rely on the roleplay of transportation were being overshadowed, because the lure of the mining factions attracted enough members for them to be self-sustaining, not needing escorts or other transports.
Fortunately the mining frenzy cooled down, and I see now more interactions between factions regarding business deals than just strip mining huge amounts of ore x in system y.
I had heard of a plan to make, for example, GMG/Kishiro partnership more important, by tweaking some scripts to make cooperation between the two id ships more advantageous rather than just all ships one the same faction (although that wouldn't be penalized in any way). Not sure if that was just theory, or something to be tested.

This is a really good idea, I hope it can be implemented, like DSE mining for DSE/non-hauling corp ship: 4x ore bonus; DSE mining for USI/IC/Gateway: 5-6x bonus, or faster fill rate.

Hi. Here is my simple suggestion based on Jack_Henderson's suggestion and my personal experience in the last one week flying this crappy Haegmon ship.
Please downscale this model. It looks like a oversized Hummer meant to hit the rocks and caught in the dense Niobium field in Tau 23.
I have been pirated a lot on it simply because once you enter the field and start mining and even if you are in it and not mining and if you see someone who you know can tax you entering the system, you cannot possibly go out of the asteroid field well in time no matter how much you try, even if you are at the beginning of that dense field. The maneuverability of that ship is disastrous to say the least. Also if the ship capacity can be upgraded, but that I leave it at your wise discretion as I do not hold any proficiency in this matter.
Here's a thought: add a new mining commodity just for Gallia - Prometheum Ore. Make just 1 medium size field of it, and make it worth $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in Sirius, especially at different research stations.
Or another I suggested in another thread: Make Uranium Ore a mineable commodity that can be mined in Leeds near LD-14 and have it sell fairly well in Gallia to entice GMS to be there, but ALSO make it sell moderately well in Manchester (their new MOX production facility) to maybe entice BMM to try to sneak mining ships in there also. Also, have it sell well in Rheinland and Kusari.
Reduce redundant mining in different sectors, and instead just make different commodities for those systems. Ex) Get rid of Platinum mining in Nagano and make Alberta the primary source for that. Get rid of different locations for Copper, Silver, AND Cobalt all in Omega-7. Make them solitary fields of each and force IMG/Kruger to fight over them (or at least be sneaky), or put the Copper fields in Nagano instead (unless there's a high Kusari sell point for Copper...can't remember off the top of my head, but I know Denver buys it for a lot, and that's not a bad run).
We do not need more ore commodities.
The spread is already too much. Centralisation in a few good activity hubs is already a real challenge with the new Scrap mining that pretty much killed centers like O7 and Taus completely. Now we have X commodities, and hardly anybody is on in the systems... therefore indies can never find anybody to mine for them, therefore they do not go there, etc.
I'll just quickly mention that Scrap mining does not even need coop... and is normally done solo. In a 750 bot/bat ship. 20 k from a base.
It's kind of frustrating to watch at the moment. And it is already frustrating for a mining faction that has a lot of good choices... I do not even want to know how mining factions feel that have to make do with a smaller range of oportunities. I guess... faction activity proves the point.
It just feels wrong at the moment and buffing the return route for Junkers (Cardi) and keeping the 14k is just wrong.
