//Hello Disco. I thank you so much for being an awesome community as well as taking time to read the story of my character. I am interested to see where this goes because it has been guided in big part by my very first RP interactions with everyone. I like feedback, so please feel free to PM me or post any thoughts or comments...... Here -> -> ->http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=125886
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Transmission Begins* ____ *A young man settles back from a computer desk in a dark & bare office*
"It is a general perception that we lead a life of self inflicted martyrdom, & I have heard it said that we are collection of lost doped up gypsies & spacers so invested in self indulgence that we have no core value. That our's is a meaningless life, a worthless life, a damned life." *Shakes Head in Disapproval*"If anyone truly desired to know any of us they might find it different I think, but who really wants to visit
'No Mans Land' right?"
"First & foremost my name is Maxx.Thrust or Maxxwell if your my mother." *Smiles Softly*"She named me after her favorite song 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' by... eh.... The Beatles I think? She was an Aerospace Engineer working at the Livadia Shipyard in Omicron 74 which helped her to acquire her modest collection of old Earth salvage. She mostly has digital stuff like pictures, a lot of books, & some stuff we can't seem to get to compile correctly but her favorite is the old Earth music. My dad was a Mechanical Engineer specializing in propulsion systems hence my last name. His dad told us stories of 'The Migration' a lot. Pappy said in the first days they had so many families with the same or similar names that they decided to change their names to reflect their station or specialty which also helped alleviate much confusion. This like many other older Zoner customs is not recognized these days."
"I was born on Freeport 9, I Love Freeport 9, & may Science save Freeport 9. I say that because we have been in a bad way for a while now & it's just getting worse it seems. Territorial disputes between The Corsairs & The Bounty Hunters equate to constant need for repairs to Freeport 9's hulls which have been costly. Also our population has little more than doubled in around 3 years, mostly by birthrates, which I think is great but with the constant & on going conflict happening we have suffered a decline in our imports & exports. This also means a loss in jobs at the Corfu Base. I feel these hardships personally as I was raised with these good people."
"When I was a younger man my dad sent me to The Zoner Academy of Excellence. He said that every generation of our family had attended since it was founded & so it was my birthright as a member of the Thrust family. He advised me to pay close attention to 0-Gravity training & survival training. He used to laugh & say these are skills that I can not learn at home."*Breaths a Heavy Sigh*"I miss him deeply. He passed soon after my graduation. Victor Thrust, he was 67." *Moment of Silence Observed*
"He was requested to join a small expedition of Bounty Hunters & Zoners who believed they found a gateway to a new star system all together. This pilgrimage was to be secret & would be entirely unknown if not for their incident. To make it short, the report states that a malfunction in the flagship's navigation system had caused a sudden hyperspace jump in reverse, resulting in their flagship materializing inside the ship my dad was serving on."
"Not to long after I purchased myself an old Waran from the Corfu Base & I still use it to go work out at the Livadia Shipyard. Got hired on through an old friend of the family."*Glances at Timepiece*"That said, if I don't continue this transmission later I will be late for work."
*Maxx leans forward to manipulate the computer*
___Maxx closes out of the computers recorder after saving his recording on a pair of portable drives. The first one doubles as military dog tags which are immediately placed back around his neck after file transfer & insertion of the second driver in the computer to save again. "Oh, for the love of Science, I hope she is right about this."Maxx removes all the saved & backed up files that he can locate in association with the recording of his transmission from this computer. More prone to worry than his mother, he felt it was another step in the prevention of hostile targeting. If his mother is wrong then he would most assuredly become a target because of this effort & therefore every precaution would be taken to maintain safety. Safety for everyone has been a major driving force for Maxx since the death of his father so few years before now, yet if she is right then how much difference will it make? Regardless he could not shake the words of the conversation he had with his mother a week before."They treat us this way because they do not know who we are,"she said."Perhaps if they could learn about us, even just one of us, it might make some difference."
___Standing up from the desk chair Maxx turned off the computer system, removed the second drive, stretched out his tired body, & gathered his things. His exhaustion was not a secret for he spent most of his free hours helping in the communal effort of repairing Freeport 9 which also meant making equipment runs when he drew the shortest straw. This coupled with his job at Livadia Shipyard out in Omicron 74 collectively offered Maxx little room for sleep or much else. After having secured his things in his backpack he stepped out through the office doors & into the halls of the hanger complex of Freeport 9. A scant few steps later he arrived to one of the break rooms that connected the halls to the gangway. Stopping a second to wash his hands he began to rub some cool water on his tired face, at which moment he heard an all too familiar voice. "Oh Now what the hell do you want Thrust."Maxx looked over his shoulder to find the smiling face of childhood friend & neighbor Mathew Zephyr.
"You got a medic?"_Maxx answered back with a grin as he turned. "Why? Something happen?"_Mathew replied with a curious look. "So I can get a shot of adrenaline,"_Maxx chuckled, _"I feel like a sack of hammered dog crap." "Yea you look it. _ Here..."_Mathew crossed the break room to the counter & poured Maxx a cup of coffee. "Really? Do you have tea instead?"_Maxx asked looking at the coffee with distaste. "Tea? Seriously?!"_Mathew laughed loud._"I get Corsair contraband, Cardamine & Pharmaceuticals. Not so much tea these day's." "Scrap That! I would rather soar to work with the engine core exposed thanks."._Maxx responded. "Ahh, Livadia tonight again is it? Let me walk you out then. I gotta do crew checks anyway, my shift is ending in 30 minutes.
___Mathew took up Maxx's backpack, Maxx reluctantly picked up the cup of coffee that Mathew had offered to him, & the two stepped out on the gangway turning to walk toward the hangar where the old Waran owned by Maxx was ready to go."You guy's hear from Weld at all? Greg Weld. Has he come in yet?"Maxx asked before taking a drink of the bitter beverage. His face twisting as he swallowed, resembling a child taking some type of nasty medicine."Who now, Greg Weld? What is he flying?"Mathew inquired."He's in a transport, a CT-39X. He went for the last shipment of supper conductors we need."Currently the regular Port Authority & quick on his way to becoming Dock Master, Mathew Zephyr was kept well informed. Naturally he would know the coming or going of any ships to fly in Omicron Theta."Not familiar to me, but when he makes it in I will bounce a comm wave to you." Mathew said reassuringly."Please do. I am anxious to see how much energy gets generated when we finish connecting all the panes together"Maxx chugged the rest of the coffee down & shivered."Well I don't know what all you folks have been doing, but it's working"Mathew stated while motioning at a group of fighters being resupplied."The power loaders are charging faster & we can service a few more ships now"Maxx smiled wide. "That is friggin great news Matt! I am real happy to hear that."
___Walking down the gangway one could see how power was not only stable but more abundant now. Even though they were still dim every light seemed brighter instead of flickering out & more of the equipment in the docking hangars were receiving power, now able for use. More importantly the new carbo-glass solar panes were effective enough to be noticed. If the power is working this well now, what then if all the biospheres were coated in solar carbo-glass. Maxx arrived to his Waran & began making ready for departure."Nomad activity is up again Maxx, so please be careful."Mathew was really worried this time. Not that concern was not a factor in his job, just that lately nomad activity was like the coming & going of an ocean tied. Maxx slid into the the bombers cockpit."No worries Matt..."He replied as he transmitted his codes to the flight tower,"They don't bother me too much. See you in a day or two." His cockpit closed & as he lay a course to the Omicron 74 jump hole in his navigational computer his ship was placed in one of the launch bays & released.
___The launch bay doors opened for dock #3 allowing Maxx entry once again to the majestic euphoria that is the Theta system. He coasted to minimum safe distance while activating his ships shields, then banking to his port side & elevating to 4 degrees he accelerated for 2 kilometers only coming to a full stop when centered in front of the flight control tower. It is here that he is prone to sit every once in a while, weightless, absorbing the majesty of his beloved home system. "Maxx.Thrust," his comm called to him, "This is Freeport 9, Good luck out there." As Maxx brought his ship about he gave his booster rockets a quick burst & shut them down just as fast, once again coasting to minimum safe distance."I thank you Freeport 9. Best of luck to you out here."Maxx replied as he eased past the control tower before taking flight to the nebulae near by.
___After he sped off into a part of the nebulae called The Amarus Cloud he activated his ships repair systems to stave off the damage bill this part of the nebulae was certain to provide the most unwary spacers. From here the real trick is in finding the jump because sensory reduction meant you had just as good a chance of seeing it as you had of finding it on your radar. Regardless, the old Waran bomber sped fearlessly through the dense cloud toward Omicron 74. Once out in system 74 the manual controls were taken up immediately as evasive maneuvers were called for in regards to a dogfight between a Bounty Hunter & a Corsair. Maxx dipped starboard avoiding gunfire, he dumped 3 flairs out of the countermeasure dropper, & then quickly sped off to the shipyard in a serpentine pattern.
___Feeling relived upon approach to The Livadia Shipyard Maxx transmitted his security clearance codes. After docking he shut his ship down, collected his personal things, & made his way to the crew quarters to try getting some rest before he had to work.
