:S
I hope for the 2nd. It will help to become hardcore RPer.

What you describe is not a set-msg problem, but a sanctionable player rule break.
Being pirated successfully:
Pirate CDs you, you halt. You immediately write "I stopped!". Take a picture with you on 0 speed and your line. Why? If he kills you now bc he is hunting for blues, is a lolwut or whatever... you can easily sanction. You have to be fast! 30 seconds to write 2 words should be a maximum you safely have.
He makes a demand. Screen the demand. If he does not make a demand and shoots you, you sanction him.
If he does not give you time to answer to the demand, sanction him.
As long as the pic shows that you were not "running away" (see step above) you will get him in the sanction IF he shoots you without demand or when he does not give you enough time to answer... IF you are not running away. If you are moving during that time, a pirate can kill you and he is right in doing so.
Comply to the demand if it is not outrageous. Pirates are part of the game. If the demand is outrageous (like... 15 mils from an empty T), screen the demand and report it. Admins will decide (demanding all your cargo is NOT a sanctionable demand, by the way).
If it is a normal demand, hey... play and pay. Or run for base, or fight... Disco would be bad without a threat.
If you were killed in anything that was not clean piracy, collect your screens, also the one of your own blue message.
Then log to your dsace.log, which holds exact time stamps for every line that was written. This way, it becomes clear whether enough time was given between demand and kill. Copy paste the whole encounter into the report...
Et voila... get a sandwich if you feel upset about what happened, and play somewhere else.
Perfectly explained hehehehehe... about the timestamp... i was usually using "/set chattime ON" ingame, for also have the timestamp ingame chat, but i noted i need to activate it every join... its normal now?

Thx for the advice, il actually copy this so everyone finaly understand what to do here when beeing pirated, since its kinda obviouse piracy is becoming a menace I mean it, this orderly explanation will prolly help new players alot. "thumbs up"
So basically beeing pirated is suddenly strangely enough "alot" of things required from the victim instead of a simple "jettison" or credit trade.
Why? Since so many traders are suddenly shot to kingdom kong....
Lets see here:
1. Hammer the screenshotbutton meanwhile you->
2. try not to move the ship at all while beeing "poked" "bumped" "physically hull offenden" everywhere by the upset poor little pirate demanding hes righteous claims, and->
3. try to RP write good answers in less then 30 sec for good ingame RP policy and at the same time->
4. dont be near any tradelanes beeing pirated since it can make the little pirate nervouse and trigger happy, also ->
5. get blown to kingdom kong if you dont have what the pirate demands within reasonable limits??
AKA demand 10 mill, i have only 8 atm-> Blues out..
This thing getting pirated seems more fun and legit then Monthy Pyton!
Alright, now seriously that is blowing an issue way out of proportion. Both sides of the fence are equal jerks in most cases. If I had a penny for every single trader who refuses to speak a single line at my pirate, only to find them roleplaying in full well-written posts on my LPI...
Seriously, the last thing you need to do at this point is, jokingly or not, encourage one side to be asses towards the other our of principle or because others do. Because if the player behind the character is a proper member, it just leaves both of you not enjoying an otherwise normal encounter.

Guys wow. Seriously... relax.
Piracy is at an all time low on the server.
My opinion: We need a lot more pirates to make this game fun again.
Do you know why I posted this not-very-well-thought-through "tutorial" is to reassure those who killed /setmsg command, that they have ways of "protecting themselves" against "too fast engagement" guys.
Perhaps I'll get around to do a real "How to get pirated successfully" tutorial, however this would take a lot of time and would obviously focus on the roleplay interaction, and not the very special case of "catching someone who abuses it". I would say less than 5 % of the pirates belong into the category... however in the /setmsg context, I think my words make sense.
So... please take it as what it is. Nothing more.
The true art is "enjoying the pirate-trader interaction". Takes a while, especially for new players who are still hurt when they lose money and thus progress, but it's the best way to deal with pirates. Roleplay... roleplay... and never go into the situation with a fixed expectation of what is acceptable roleplay or not.
Plus: The most important advice for those traders who think they get it too hard: make a pirate. Feel the other side. You'll be surprised.
Perhaps this counterbalances the narrowly focussed part above a little.
Have fun being pirated and have fun pirating.
