Sender: Commandant Pierre Vaillant Recipient: Marine Royale Personnel Subject: Cortez front collapsing.
I am sure you are already aware about the sad events in Cortez. The Bretonians and Libertonians launched a surprise attack against the Betheny Battlegroup. The fleet is actually suffering the offensive of three enemy battlegroups. The Betheny is actually forming a 'bulge' into the front and the Libertonian battleship Alma is currently blocking any attempts of retreats.
I am actually supporting the Betheny and its fleet, though the chances of a victory are very low. I ordered to the Betheny a "fanatical resistance and that the Roi is expecting them a total bravery and loyalty to the Gallic values". Some reinforcements joined the battle, but seeing the dramatic situation, I am about to close imediately the retreat route leading to Magellan. The resistance of the Betheny will give us time to regroup and prepare the retreat from California.
According to the best estimates, the Betheny could resist without supplies again 4 or 5 days. This should give us some time.
Sincèrement
Marine Royale Gauloise, Commandant Pierre Vaillant.
