Sujet: New Command
Good day, old chaps!
As per orders, today I have assumed command of the Perilous-class gunboat RNS Acheron. The Acheron spent the better part of the last decade in the Council's service and was recently recaptured by our forces. She is one of the older ships in the fleet but after her recent refits at Issoudun, she's more than ready to bring the fight to our enemies.
My engineering team is reporting a few quirks due to the age of the ship and her service history, but nothing they can't work around. The main issue is that the yard crew left the Council's engine in place, but it works within Navy standards and there's no point replacing a serviceable engine when those parts could be better used elsewhere. It'll be a bit more of a challenge to maintain than the standard Navy design, but my crew assures me it's nothing they can't handle.
There's also been an issue with the main computer. My engineering team has done a complete reset on all systems, and purged all the Council code they could find, but the software has a habit of occasionally putting Council insignias and colours in place of our own, including (as you can see) on report templates. My security chief reports that she's absolutely certain that our systems are secure and no data is being sent anywhere it shouldn't, but we're finding the issue fairly annoying. We're going to have the crew at Issoudun take another look at it next time we put in for servicing.
One last thing before I sign off. I thank the Navy for the trust it has placed in me by granting me a promotion and this command. Given my origins, it would be easy to mistrust me and keep me at arms length, but you haven't done that. I've been made to feel very much at home, and that means a great deal to me. I will continue to serve honourably and will do my best to repay, with interest, the trust placed in me.
