Both is happening. The Spyglass is getting a new infocard that better explains its presence on non-Hacker ships, which Boguslaw/Nicole Hunter gave the thumbs-up on, and a "lawful" variant will be introduced.
It was so unnecessary and the reason of saying "It is called 'Battleship scanner', so it can only be used..." is just silly in a world in which the name can be changed with the stroke of a key in literally seconds.
I do not see what advantage this change brought to anybody, yet I see quite a lot of unnecessary discomfort, especially for Cruiser-players who had to change equipment around. Makes no sense to not allow BS-Scanners on Cruisers at all as they participate in the same playstyle of cap combat.
This was a working money sink, a huge one.
Limiting it now again is neither necessary nor helpful.
It is just annoying. Unnecessarily annoying.
Cruiser players who had every reason to assume that they could keep the scanners on their ships got screwed over big time bc you simply cannot sell BS-scanners now if you actually still care for money in Disco.
Anyway, at least inserting 2 new scanners into the game will help with giving some use to the scanners that have been lying around in NPC bases without any use.
I have a hard time understanding why we are making life harder and Disco more cumbersome by adding things no one really cares for and from which no one really profits, while major problems in Disco have been existing without being addressed (see: mining centralisation, merging of mining areas, mining rate levelling, snub-pvp-accessibility, OP Sidewinder fix, etc etc) for a loooong time.

I believe it might be so that staff is doing something but not really much. As in, easy change, no benefits, huge outcry.
Sometimes we just don't understand these changes but we are forced to go with it.
