Therefore my question is would it be possible for each house to receive at least different lightning/glowmap? Liberty - blue, Rheinland - green, quasi-lawful/unlawful - grey, Zoners - white, etc?
[6:09:19 AM] Justin Hopkins: The general consensus is "custom models for each house aren't such a great idea after all"
[6:09:35 AM] SnakThree: It's not models, it's just lights.
[6:09:39 AM] Justin Hopkins: I could maybe get behind changing the glowmaps, lights, and MAYBE textures
[6:09:42 AM] Justin Hopkins: But that's it.
[6:09:46 AM] Justin Hopkins: Yeah I know but the thing is,
[6:10:00 AM] Justin Hopkins: There's always that one asshole who barges into those threads and goes "REEEEEEEEE UNIQUE MODEL FOR EACH HOUSE"
[6:10:05 AM] Justin Hopkins: So I kinda hate them.
[6:11:24 AM] SnakThree: Uh, well, I am just asking if "glowmaps" could be changed for each house+unlawfuls/zoners.
[6:11:37 AM | Edited 6:11:44 AM] SnakThree: Wouldn't be anything unique, but still variaty.
[6:11:45 AM] Justin Hopkins: Its a question of could they be vs should they be
[6:11:50 AM] Justin Hopkins: Remember that red is a VERY odd color
[6:11:53 AM] Justin Hopkins: But it is vanilla.
[6:11:58 AM] Justin Hopkins: And fits none of the houses.
[6:12:13 AM] Justin Hopkins: Liberty presumably would be blue, Bretonia white, the others green and yellow ofc
I glowmapped them just to make them look better, especially in dark nebulae or unlit places. I just hope people enjoy them more now.
As for each house getting their own gates/lanes/rings.... what Justin pointed out says it all.
What CAN happen however is an upgrade on the aging vanilla assets, but only if either one of those 2 things happen first:
1.) Either we get Schmackbolzen's OpenGL renderer to enable quality graphics for our mod;
2.) Or Librelancer gets finished some day so we can upgrade every asset over time and get rid of FLhook entirely in favor of a stable game & server engine.

Wouldn't it be simplier to just make an entire game from scratch on a more modern engine?
Yeah, I understand that some of us run FL on pretty old desktops, but Disco is already passing a limit of vanilla FL.

I am just asking if we can have different glowmaps per each house, to make those look at least a bit different.
How I see it the possibility is certainly there, Gallia's unique designs should be the evidence that even various gate, lane or docking ring models can be implemented. It's more like a quesiton of who has the required skill, dedication and free time to do things like that, whether it's a new model, or just a retexture or a glowmap.
I assume this case is similar to new ships and other things, if you submit a full product it might be considered and reviewed for implementation, but the dev staff got a lot of other things to work on than to add one more task to their backlog.
Unique, house-specific looks would be a nice flavour though.
I could recolor the glowmaps and have the patch pushed to the server within the week if I wanted to, I just frankly don't think I should.
That red color on every single gate and docking ring in the mod which has been there since vanilla will suddenly be replaced by every color other than the original. Something feels a little weird about that to me.

This statement is simply false. I have no intentions of sitting on my ass and doing nothing when 2003 era geometry can be overhauled right now in the engine we are currently using.
