"Doctor's a doctor." Bernard thought to himself, perhaps dying quickly would be better anyways, Steiner's calm attitude certainly didn't discourage him either. Bernard walked over, leaning against the wall as he stumbled onto the bed and shut his eyes for a second. Steiner responded by looking over his head, making mixed facial expressions as he saw each of Bernard's injuries. He had no tools, nothing at his disposal, maybe the guards would...
Bernards breathing began to distance, and soon he laid back without response. He was unconscious. Steiner's immediate thought was to notify the guards, maybe they spared some ounce of dignity in the event something like this happened. Just as he stood up to yell however, the door slid open.
A guard walked in, followed by a red haired woman wearing an unmarked uniform. She had some sort of fancy sidearm holstered at her waist, she looked very old fashioned.
They're yours. So long as the Nobility allows it.
Following the guard's exit from the room. The red haired woman walked in further, reacting in shock at Bernard's condition. Her expression changed as she looked up at Steiner, the shock immediately recoiled into words.
If John's thoughts could be characterized into a single symbol, it would have been a large question mark appearing over his head. This fellow really must have been in deep if the Aristocracy had appeared less than a day after his arrival.
I am he said, returning his attention to the now unconscious Bernard. His ribs are broken, and his skull is fractured. I don't know the extent of the damage until he has an x-ray and an ultra sound done but considering his present condition, I'd say it's not good. Please inform the guards that this man requires attention as quick as possible. Internal bleeding was at the forefront of his mind as to what the issue was, but if the skull was damaged then the risk of a major brain injury was also quiet high. He looked back at the woman who had just entered Don't just stand there, he's not dead yet, but if you don't get a move on he soon will be, quick as you can love.

"So much for the kissing makeup followed by zipping off planet" Alice thought to herself. There was so much emotional buildup that she had a hard time reacting to the sight of Bernard on the verge of death. Every instinctive command came to mind, she knew taking him to a hospital would be too long never-mind how long it would take to treat his injuries. It was a matter of hours now before /someone/ caught onto the allowed release of a dozen war prisoners aboard a specific ship with an even more specific leader.
Marie took another second to think, she had a nurse waiting back at the estate along with the rest of her crew mates, including Alexis. There was a doctor standing right in front of her, and given the way things were turning, maybe having a Bretonian with them was a good idea.
Medical services don't cover people on death row. You're lucky you're not in the same situation... Help me pick him up, don't say a word on the way out. Don't look at anyone, don't do anything stupid.
Alice walked up close to Bernard, the sight of him so beaten gave Marie another small shock before she reached under his arm in sync with Steiner and lifted him up.
We can get a stretcher at the first checkpoint but until then we'll be walking past guards. They will react to you helping me, let me handle it and you might have some freedom. The sincerity in her tone certainly struck Steiner, little did he know she was often quite the opposite.
For God's sakes don't drop him he said as they hauled him up. and moved out of the cell. A number of questions circulated about his head Who was she? Marie? what did she mean 'freedom' where are we going and what in Gods name are we going to do with this man? along with a dozen others. The checkpoint approached, if all else failed, he could switch to Rheinlandic.

Steiner's words were just overcautious, maybe he was in shock as well. He was a doctor, not a nurse; but didn't those two sort of go together? Whatever. All that mattered was getting out of the facility and onto her personal shuttle without being tailed - no pressure. The two exited carrying what might've well been Bernard's lifeless body, all of the guards were on foot patrol around the interior cell block of the large prison, meaning they'd likely run into fewer.
To their surprise, none of the guards gave them any trouble. It seemed word got around with real haste. As the two approached the checkpoint leading out of the cell block section of the prison to the elevator. The two were stopped by the sound of a guard sitting behind the desk.
Enter the connector for a checkout scan, does that one need hospital transportation?
No, just a stretcher.
Quite some health insurance, but that was the reality of being on death row. Weather or not you survived to be executed was entirely chance, only in Gallia. The scan commenced, as it did so Alice took out her ID and placed it through a small opening in the glass and onto the desk in the box office. The guard checked the ID, his eyes widened for a second as he checked the ID. He exhaled, reached out and placed the ID back outside the small opening where Alice snatched it back as if on que.
Mademoiselle Marie, merci for your cooperation. Your transportation awaits on the landing pad above as you arranged. The guards will exit the elevator with a stretcher.
Alice didn't pay any mind to the manners given, she began to pull Steiner and Bernard towards the exit of the connector. The room in front of them was small, but very very bright. The view of the city beneath them through the glass windows was quite a sight to take in, it would be even more so when they reached the roof.
As the two zoned out the elevator doors opened, inside were two guards with a stretcher between them. They rushed out and assisted in lying Bernard down. Alice pulled Steiner into the elevator before it began to ascend up to the roof.
I'll be keeping the stretcher. The guards didn't seem to mind, nor pay any attention really.
The elevator came to a sudden stop after ascending for a few seconds, the facility was enormous. The city beneath them stretched for miles, interrupted in some areas by lakes. Seeing the city from so high up would totally rule out the thought of anything malicious occurring. Every day seemed spectacular on New Paris, but the contents beyond it's aesthetics were all but vile. None of it really mattered to Alice, she grew up in the dream setting, it didn't do her much interest after enlisting.
Lynxes roaring throughout the sky were only matched by the sound of the winds tugging at them at such a high altitude. The pair walked straight ahead to the only shuttle on the landing pad, simple enough, and they had a bonus guest.
You're going to have to provide what care you can for him while I take us back to my estate. I'll explain more once we're there.
Yes of course he said taking his filthy prisoner coat off and binding it around the mans head tightly, hoping that it would stabilize the fractures. We need to get this man in doors so I can take a proper look at him. Please be gentle and don't touch his head. I don't know what they did to him...and where are we going? he asked as ideas and thoughts raced through his mind on how he was going to treat this man with as few tools as possible.

Marie walked to the cockpit while Steiner had Bernard lie down in the shuttle, the uncertainty in his voice rang louder than any other sound this high up. They needed to get home, and it needed to be fast.
We'll be arriving in less than 10 minutes as you Bretonians referr... surely you have a name, what is it?
Alice's words turned a bit more serious, and lacking emotion, maybe she was just trying to prepare herself for the worst case scenario.
Doctor John Steiner. he said still focusing on the man before him. And you?. Now was hardly the time for first introductions but if it meant she wasn't going to loose her head, then it was fine. His pulse was stable, but his breathing was laboured and now was a good time to begin taking a look at what had happened beneath Bernard's clothing. He tore the shirt off and gawked at what he was before him. The bruising was extensive, most of his lower abdomen was pink and his chest was no better, Bloody hell he said under his breath, as he began feeling around Bernard's ribcage.

"Steiner" The name rung a bell, there were a few others that carried that last name, maybe it was worth asking... At a later date anyways, for now, they were approaching her estate.
Alice Marie, he's a friend. We're arriving at my place now.
Alice looked back out beyond the windowed cockpit to see the shuttle slowing down and arriving.
Follow me, I have a nurse and some medical supplies inside. You'll have to make due with those.
The shuttle sat down just outside Alice's enormous mansion, inheritance in addition to grants from her service left her with a fantastic retirement. The only issue was - retiring.
The shuttle doors opened to reveal two individuals standing just outside, Alexis, and the medical chief of the Vauquelin Royale - Maximilian de la serre. Alexis was short, with blonde hair barely standing over 5 and a half feet. While Maximilian was closer to 5 feet ten inches, with blonde hair as well, their appearances were quite overcautious as they noticed victor.
Merde, what did they do to him, and who is this?Maximilian said in shock.
This is John Steiner, he's a doctor, he was in Bernard's cell when he went out. He also might be a ticket out of here before they catch onto us. Take him in, there are supplies in either restroom. I'll start sorting our next move.
How bad is he?Maximiian said as John and he rolled Bernard out into the mansion on the stretcher.
Very, obviously he said, his temper suddenly starting to thin as precious time was being wasted over the blindingly obvious. You will need to do an x-ray, and an ultrasound, chest and abdominal, check for internal bleeding and scaring. Then his head, fractures and bleeding again, put him under, it may buy him time for you to assess his situation more carefully. Unless you want me to help.
