During Olympia's construction, there was a crucial decision. Sealing the front of the ship. It was a failed experiment to mount a fixed hull-mounted weapon platform. While it could be effective, it was deemed ship's powercore could not handle all the strain from the weapon planned to installed. Thus, after all the power connections made, it was decided to seal the frontal weapon system. To this day, both Olympia, Poseidon and Scotus, features the sealed platform. The system is there, yet unutilized. That was about to change. At Sabah Research Section, a discerning group of scientists and engineers aimed to unseal Olympia's frontal systems and develop a hull-mounted weapon platform again. The Olympia still housed an empty Launch Platform that could be either retrofitted to carry a Torpedo Launcher or a Cannon behind the sealed plating. With IRG's powerplant installed, it was deemed therotically Olympia could handle the additional strain. Scientists started with developing a weapon suitable to be installed there. Thus, Fixed Coil-Assisted Weapon System 44 was born. Christened "Zeus" by the engineers, that weapon platform was a therotical solution to utilizing the systems residing at Olympia. However, to engineers, fitting the weapon system inside the empty area was easy part. They still had to find a way to disable limiters within IRG powercore without compromising integrity of the core in the long run...
FCAWS-44 or ZEUS as commonly referred by Sabah Research, the weapon consists of several parts. Crucial parts are Autoloader, Nitrogen-Cooled Barrel, and most importantly, Accelerator Coil System. The weapon is designed to fire 620mm Depleted Uranium Slugs with magazine capable of holding 15 rounds that can vary slightly.
2. Statistics and limitations of the weapon.
Without disabling the built-in %15 limiters of IRG Core, The gun can merely fire 2 rounds before drawing entire powercore of the ship based of therotical calculations. Aim is to reduce limiters to %5 and fire the 3rd round before depleting the powercore. The damage should rival or even surpass the Heavy Mortars, plus the ability to fire in bursts is planned. The Zeus' only limitation is ammo. Once managed to be produced, the weapon is believed that it will be able to fire at rather close ranges with devastating speed. However, that is the whole thing Olympia needs.
3. Production time and estimated costs.
The weapon is estimated to cost 1 billion credits including modifications to Olympia and supplying constant ammo. It is estimated that each round going to cost around 5 million credits.
"So, talks with IRG failed. They refuse to remove limiters. That leaves us two options. A heavily limited, additional powercell fused into weapon's mechanism or contacting some people capable of removing the limiters... I am not sure about risking the ship's overall stability for %10 power though. I think we can make room for the auxiliary powercore..." -Olympia Chief Engineer Adam Bourke
