-Construction and Operational History-
Following negotiations between the Order Science Division and the Gas Miner's Guild in early 816 A.S., Order engineering personnel were dispatched to GMG shipyards to assist in the guild's development of next-generation combat craft. During this collaboration, initial plans for a courier-gunship were drafted; however, the designs were put on hold in lieue of additional fighter and bomber class vessel designs, which were more efficient to construct with limited GMG resources. The courier-gunship plans would eventually be completed by GMG Shipwrights in 822 A.S., but the schematics for the concept were sent back to Evora shipyards to be adjusted to Order specifications and implemented in a proof-of-concept vessel for the Order Science Division. That vessel was built and completed within the year, and commissioned for active service in 817 A.S. under the moniker "Lynx".
The Lynx may share many visual queues with the later-drafted GMG Bishamon-class gunship, but the similarities end there. The schematics were altered and the ship was rebuilt from the inside out with the latest technology and designs that Evora had to offer. Intended to function a multi-role capacity as a materials courier, blockade runner, electronic warfare and fire support craft, and stealth reconnaissance and scouting ship, the Lynx was outfitted with numerous advanced communications, scanning, jamming, and stealth systems. In maritime operations, the Lynx is designed to ferry high-value research materials, nomad remains, and xeno artifacts between Order facilities; being more defended against attack than a traditional transport or freighter, but small enough to avoid drawing attention from the Guild Core. As a stealth reconnaissance vessel, the Lynx is equipped with Infrared and Electromagnetic dampening hull plating, low-emission engines and power systems, and a prototype cloaking device, as well as the latest in long-range sensor and communications equipment.
During wartime operations, the Lynx serves as a Warning and Control System - providing coordination for allied ships - and as an Electronic Warfare platform, jamming enemy sensors, scrambling communications, and running diversionary tactics. The Lynx is minimally armored and armed, lending it to hit and run tactics as opposed to open combat; though it can operate in an escort capacity for other Science Division craft.
-Command Crew Assignments-
Commander Christopher Maihos
Position: Commanding Officer
Christopher Maihos has served for ten years as a combat pilot and wing commander for The Order. He was transferred from his most recent assignment as first officer aboard the Resheph-Class Reconnaissance Cruiser "Tel-Amet" to a commanding officer position on the O.S.D. "Lynx"
Sub-Commander Arya Davis
Position: First Officer
Arya Davis has served previously with Commander Maihos as a combat pilot. Her career with The Order has been moderately stunted due to her pension for playing loose with the rules, often defying orders from her superiors and making field command decisions without approval. Faults aside, she is a top notch combat pilot.
Professor Kate Benson
Position: Chief Science Officer
Kate Benson has served with the Order Science Division for several years. She was drafted into the OSD by Admiral Kaylee Staite directly from the university of xeno-archaeological sciences on planet Cambridge. She holds degrees in xenobiology, xenoarchaeology, stellar cartography, and theoretical physics.
Doctor Eva Strauss
Position: Chief Medical Officer
Eva Strauss is a trauma surgeon recruited from the Rheinland military shortly after the Nomad War. She has gained extensive experience working with the Order Science Division to neutralize nomad hosts and combat xeno-viral infections, including the "Ancient Plague" dealt with in a joint project between the OSD and Blood Dragons.
Specialist Eric Rheinhardt
Position: Chef Engineering Officer
Specialist Rheinhardt is a brilliant engineer hailing from Rheinland. He was one of the engineers sent to work with the GMG and had a significant role in designing the GMG gunship that the Lynx is based on. He knows the ship inside and out, quite literally, and was a prime candidate for the position of Chief Engineer - despite never having served on an active warship prior to this assignment.
Major Jason Pierce
Position: Chief Security Officer
Major Pierce was recruited from the LPI, where he served more than a decade and saw firsthand the corruption inherent in the Liberty government and the corporations that ran it. He became disenchanted by his employers, and eagerly jumped at the opportunity to work for an organization dedicated to the betterment of humanity within Sirius. He is an exceptional marksman, but has little experience serving aboard starships.
The Lynx is split into three levels: an upper crew deck, mid operations deck, and lower cargo deck. Deck layouts are as shown:
CREW DECK
The crew deck contains accommodations for the Commander, First Officer, and eight crewmen - primarily bridge crew. The lift at the rear of the crew deck connects all three levels of the ship.
OPERATIONS DECK
The operations deck is the primary level for most ship activity onboard the Lynx. At the front of the operations deck is the bridge, with helmsman, gunnery officer, and command positions. Six multipurpose rooms are oriented along the hallway behind the bridge, each can be customized to fill various research or storage requirements. In default configuration, these rooms are high-security holding facilities for dangerous or important cargo, prisoners, or personnel, with command-encrypted access barriers rather than traditional doorways.
At the center of the operations deck are two configurable tech labs which include a multitude of medical and scientific equipment. In standard configuration, one room is utilized as a medbay, while the other is set up as a command control center for electronic warfare operations.
Opposite the two tech labs are six additional crew quarters for operational personnel.
The aft section of the operational deck contains main engineering, with internal access to the three main thrusters for the ship. Engineering also contains the experimental cloaking device and power reactors utilized by the Lynx.
Additional hallways lead to the left and right nacelles of the ship, where the scanning, transmission, and electronic warfare equipment is stored. At the aft of each nacelle is a combination airlock/escape pod for evacuating the ship in case of catastrophic damage.
CARGO DECK
The lowest deck of the ship includes the primary cargo storage bay, two additional multi-purpose rooms, crew quarters for the Chief of Security and Chief of Engineering, and the main access ramp.
