Representatives of the Liberty Government,
Well, this is awkward.
A few years ago we had a little thing going with a treaty where your people and my people wouldn't do the whole shooting at each other for fun and profit thing. The chief steward of our mercantile guild however is telling me that while we were pulling out of Kansas the hard way, someone over there in the bureaucracy said something along the lines of, "looks like the baguette brigade killed them all, guess this treaty's annulled by default".
We'd like to re-up that whole co-belligerents-in-the-war-against-Gallia thing if you wouldn't mind. Bretonia can vouch for us if you have concerns about political attachment to ye olde reformede pirates squad. Now obviously we don't lay claim to the Kansas system anymore -- looks like Heckflame Squadron took over in our absence -- and Humboldt seems to have been sucked into a parallel universe, and all our claims are well out of your way, but considering our transit through the Baffin Corridor and our general stance of "why would anyone cater to Gallic Royalists" I think the rest of it is still good to us. We don't shoot you, you don't shoot us, we shoot Gauls together, our transports ship legal goods through Liberty.
Oh, and there's no more "Vagrant Raiders", so you need not worry about the ideas some might have about signing up to treaty with a bunch of dirty pirates. Sound good?
Regards,
Minister Harold Kane
Ministry of Relations, Natio Octavarium
Harold Kane; Ministry of Relations for Natio Octavarium,
I well recall our dealings, Mister Kane. They were a solid step forward between our two governments, especially ones who were neighbors as we once were. Alas, the passage of time has altered many things, from stellar cartography to international relations. And that brings us to today.
We do indeed consider the former treaty as nullified between our two parties. An agreement can only hold sway as long as both parties exist to uphold it. With the disappearance of Natio Octavarium several years ago there was no need to hold onto it as legally binding. With your claim on territory that borders our Republic forfeit, we do not see the need to renegotiate its points either.
I am encouraged by your statements that your government continues to put its checkered past behind it. We will welcome your merchants to conduct their business in Liberty in full accordance with the Laws of Liberty. We shall not deny you on that front. With respect to any military cooperation, however, I do not see that a formal agreement between us is necessary. Your people are far from our front lines, and the possibility of mutual coordinated actions are quite remote. We do recognize your right to wage sovereign war against a hostile aggressor such as Gallia, though. If you require aid or assistance in waging guerrilla strikes against our common foe then I would point you to the offices of the Liberty Security Force or other specialized branches of the Forces of Liberty.
On behalf of the Republic of Liberty, I welcome you back to the Sirius sector and wish your and your government the best in forging your own path forward.
