I haven't done the maths, but a Corvo with more heavy GB turrets and a light cruiser powercore might be very scary.
I'm not sure what good a single cruiser turret would be.
Doesn't matter. Just like comparing a gunboat with one of the best destroyers out there. It's a gunboat with focus on defense and multifunctionality and for that it is perfect already. People who know how to make use of the Corvo as gunboat can be as much of a threat to other gunboats and snubs as any other gunboat, simply because of the cruiser shields. It's not on par DPS-wise, but for that you have a large cargo bay, the ability to cloak for 15 minutes consecutively, the ability to use it as on IDs that only allow ships up to gunboat size and the fact that it, for the very reason of its rather defensive nature, to use it in most houses except those that are complaining about a lack of activity.
Since it's now a gunboat, it should keep gunboat turrets. Cruiser turrets would increase its range and damage capability, making it more dangerous against capital ships. With gunboat turrets, it is more effective against smaller ships, as a "gunboat" should be.
The only thing I'd say it could receive, is a couple of extra gunboat primaries. With its huge power core, any more heavy slots would be extremely deadly, so these should be avoided.
It should be noted that the Corvo, while useless against any other cruiser or larger ship, is capable of beating down any gunboat in the game with relative ease. Equip it with 4 cerbs and a razor, all of which you can fire together nonstop for 30-45 seconds at least due to the cruiser power core, and you'll overpower any gunboat, and be pretty deadly to bombers/fighters that slip up. It's by no means incapable of combat.

If you really want bigger guns, SRP for them.
Considering the effort involved, you might as well SRP for an actual cruiser then.
All I see the Corvo could use are 1-2 more GB primaries. As of now, 2 well coordinated Corvos pose a threat to light BSs and Cruisers. Lack of CD is the only disadvantage there, so you would need even a third person for CDing. But with the 4 Cerbs + Razor setup you can fire without end, literally.

e: Seriously, though, the Corvo is just useless in PvP. As of the POB changes, the thing it's most effective at is sieges, and that's kind of beyond weird. It needs some love.
