The destruction of Tombstone was complete. One nuclear device destroyed the entire living area of the Estate, the mansion, guest houses, staff houses, stables, and gardens were all reduced to but a crater. Anything living was instantly vaporized which was basically nothing. As Doc floated through space, he sat with his face looking out the window in deep thought. Tombstone was more than a home, it was a history book, one that he chose to close.
With him on the ship was a Alessa Samson. It was with her that he planned to start a new life as she now wore gold and diamonds upon her left ring finger. While she did a fair job comforting him, he found a new hole in his life. Sure, he had his Med Force assets which continued to do their work but Doc had nowhere to call home. He was a refugee, exiled from Gran Canaria which would soon be in Bretonian hands, the thought of the latter infuriating him. The blast did accomplish one good thing, any evidence of the death of Chancellor Mortimer would be long lost. Doc leaving the system? Well, that was a regular occurence with his work. For now, his hired transport hand, Billy Garand, would fly his transport to keep the credits moving. For now though, Doc sat quietly, holding Alessa tight to him. He could muster only a week smile to her. It would take awhile but he finally said to her, "I will be fine in good time, Dahlin'."
He was tired and found himself starting to drift off until a member of his flight crew came back to see him. "Excuse me, Doctor," he said before addressing Alessa, "Ma'am." He then looked back at Doc, "Where to, Sir?"
He answered immediately, "Freeport Nine and send a message to Commander Cook on Med Force Three to meet us there."
"Yes, Sir," he answered and headed back to the bridge.
He then told Alessa his intentions. "All of my ships, just like Freeports, have individual chipsets. It will be there that we contact the Corsairs. I think that they should know what just happened. Also, Commander Alicia Cook is a native of New London. She might be able to get some intelligence for us."
He then managed a soft smile. "We have a long trip before us and I am tired." He stood up, helping her up with him and taking her to his quarters where he began to unbutton her top.
"We have some alone time together and well...." He looked at her finger, ".....I would like to love the woman that will soon be my wife."
