This is a repetitive question that is rising in all corners whenever this model is presented. Going to make it clear here.
The LABC is an okay model and it's one of the "iconic" ship in Liberty. However, it is lacking so much detail for it to be standing out as, once again, "iconic".
The problem with the ship is that most Textures are not mapped but just unwrapped in different ways that were not taking the time to properly apply them correctly. Few are not even unwrapped to say the worst. "Just slap the texture in the face/normal and walk off." We, 3dmodelers, will not allow that and we will strive to bring out best quality assets for the Discovery Mod and the community out of our voluntary work. Atleast that is how I vision it.
As a matter of fact, i tried to retexture the current model but 80% (+/-) of the mesh normals are not merged with each other - and connecting merging them would be a hassle. It is why I dedicated my full knowledge in creating something good.
As for the current LABC being kept, I do not know if it will be replaced or seize of having a sellpoint. It is up for the Dev Leads.
Let this be known.
Not trying to shoot down your work, but your opinion seems relative. I didn't notice any of those other details, and didn't know about them until you mentioned them.
You're not a 3d artist. If you went for school or had any formal or informal knowledge on the subject, you'd get it. Look, I'm not trying to call people stupid or anything but I've written giant essays on why a thing is of quality or not on these very forums, and the reception has been "we don't care."
If you're really interested though, I can dig up the critique I did with Unlucky's Geb model which highlights all of the same issues the old LABC faces.

While you right here about issues, gosh that half of old models terrible as hell. But there exist another moment. Current LABC have his soul, and impression what its make absolutely different with Felsvar model.
Current LABC represent unique shark-alike concept, while Felsvar one more continue Overlord design, improve it, but not adding anything significant new from concept side (from technical side its of course like heaven(Felsvar one) and Earth(old one)).
There alot of models, which while technically bad as hell, damn its incredible, how peoples could've even made diletantism like that. But many of them have soul, while not every good quality model have it. Or it have different soul, like in current case. Impression from model should be taken in account too, this is question about taste.
Oh I agree that they are two distinctly different models in terms of design aesthetic, but the fact is that one is leagues ahead of the other in terms of quality, and that design doesn't differ significantly enough to warrant being kept around with the number of issues it has.

If Fels goes the Aerelm route, and gets his ego bruised by a handful of people giving criticism, and he then torpedos the whole model because of feedback he disagrees with, what the odds that another modeller is insecure and caustic. I hope you don't mean to insult his intelligence by implying that's what he is, because Fels strikes me a rational person who's open to critique.
Don't be so ignorant, especially when you don't know the other half of that story and weren't in certain Discords. You're just marking yourself as an idiot.

Even some Vanilla models are garbage though. I get where you're coming from, and respect your experience, but unless it causes severe or otherwise game breaking issues due to how the model has been implemented, (as you said) often the vast majority of people just don't care about those small but otherwise invisible details that you have both outlined.
As you're QA you ultimately decide what goes in and what's in need of urgent replacement, but yeah, this is just my perspective as someone with a different mindset when it comes to content. I did do design at school. I just look at things from a business perspective and how the consumers at large would receive them, which was part of that course.
It's a cool model. I just like the current one more.
