Andrew Hayashi Dagon was viewing the latest scan of the manufactured guns, according to its blueprint. While it was a tried and tested design in the Edge Worlds, it was barely compatible to the bretonian made systems and power grids. Tachyon based weaponry, while created and used by them, was fickle and the subtle design changes were more than enough to put a stop in using said guns. A quick knock was heard on his door and without rising his eyes, he only voiced a:
"Enter."
A woman in the typical Bretonian Armed Forces uniform, a Bridge Officer by the rank displayed on the lapels entered and saluted. Young and professional. And yet already a veteran in this war. His eyes locked onto hers and nodded, the details of her personnel file coming back to his memory.
Mara Blythe should have expected the request, her superiors being quite pleased with her work on the now HMS-Hellbound. But it was still quite a shock to be specifically contacted by T&G with a request for her further assistance on another project. Hopefully this next one will be a bit more above board and straight forward. Even now she was still in the dark when it came to the many details of that ship, the hows and the whys of how it got where it is now.
Only one way to find out. She thought to herself as she walked up to and knocked on the door of the T&G head's office.
A simple "Enter" in response of which she quickly obliged and walked in. Andrew Hayashi Dagon's reputation seem to have been on the mark, a half-Kusarian/ Libertonian man with a neutral glare. A short silence in the room, if Andrew noticed her tensing up he did not show any sign of it before he nodded and broke the silence "Welcome to the CRS, Bridge Officer Blythe."
Mara quickly relaxed, "Glad to be here, sir." she then noticed various terminals were lighted up on his desk, though she could not discern what exactly they were from this angle. "I was called here for a quick introduction and a briefing on a project I was contacted about?"
Andrew nodded and extended his hand to a nearby seat, that Blythe quickly took. After a few seconds, collecting his thoughts, his eyes rose, serious and without a hint of what was going through the man's head. Motioning towards a data-pad that was carefully placed in front of the seat, he finally spoke.
"For months, we have access to blueprints of a specialized weapon. Tachyon in origin,"
Blythe opened the data-pad and the first files of the blueprints came to view. Origin, energy readings, materials, damage scalability regarding different inputs, everything needed to build one. A 'Scythe' Edge Worlds Tachyon Cannon. While a known weapon, the knowledge of fabrication was a tight lip secret to the factions that roamed the Omegas and Omicrons.
"We've already deployed some prototypes, but the energy configuration in regards to the power output of our weapon mounts, and ultimately, our ship power grids has been anything but stellar. Your experience with project Hellbound allowed you to have a different standpoint and experience in regards to different technologies and how they interface in the electronic and energy level."
He leaned forward, crossing his hands and looking at Blythe.
"That is why you are here. I've already requested the Admiralty for a leave from active duty for you. If you accept, you will be temporarily placed in the T&G to deal with project 'Harvest'."
Turning around on his chair, he rose and started to walk with the data-pad in his hand and talking, without looking at her, as he was running his thoughts twice before speaking.
"While we have already tachyon based weaponry in our armament lists, the 'Scythe' will reduce the need and ultimately remove the need we have for external weaponry from our allies. Needless to say, its an umbrella for a rainy day. A fallback. An insurance. There is a time limit on this, however. As you know, the war is upon us all, leaving little to no wiggle room or mistakes in this. Are you interested?"
Mara’s mind was already running through all the possible variables that would be the cause of the incompatibility, the most likely one in her mind would be the frequency of the alternating currents the guns were designed for and the output of the standard Bretonian power core. Software incompatibilities were also likely, that would either be a nightmare or a simple fix depending on whether it would need a complete re haul of the electronics or merely a reprogramming with Bretonian standards.
It took her a few moments to realize Andrew was still waiting for an answer to his question. When Blythe did finally take notice she straightened up and said. ”Of course, though I’m likely going to need access to the CRS fabrication lab and a programmer.” Coding was always a weakness of hers, and some custom machining will likely be needed when adapting the weapons to Bretonian standard“Ultimately though this should not be too difficult of a job with all the information needed right here. You should see an initial plan and report from me in the next few days,”
This was going to be another interesting project, edge world technology has always been a fascinating topic. It was developed out on the very frontier of humanity, with all the difficulty and lack of resources such a place entails they managed to create weaponry an par with house space. Similar yet so different. Not to mention the aforementioned secrecy, not many outside the omicrons were privy to the inner workings of 'Scythes'.
His jaw tensed for a moment, as he was thinking about the particulars of why Blythe would require a programmer, but then he mentally nodded at her request.
"Very well. I'll assemble a team. Ultimately it will be your project, I will be merely overseeing it, since we are hard-pressed in other fronts with other projects."
Typing a couple of commands in his data-pad, Blythe's personal one flared up with dozens of files and credentials requests.
"I have sent you the specifics. Welcome to the Toys and Games, Blythe."
His eyes were reviewing the latest theoretical iteration that was delivered by the Harvest team. Pulling the 3D scans aside, he started to review the blueprints and the new numbers. A slight scowl made way into his face. While the supposed issue was the energy configurations, more and more issues arose with the consecutive iterations. Once again, their request for funding to build this newest prototype was attached to the project.
The numbers were off, he thought to himself, reaching a conclusion. To simply put it, no way the power mount grids would be able to cope with the level of feedback that would emerge from consecutive fire. That without considering the generated heat. He sighed and wrote it off. Blythe and her team would have to redo everything again.
Currently scythes are completely incompatibile with Bretonian equipment. The main issue was the power draw, it has however been identified now that the main culprit was the Transformer and the Full Wave Rectifier. The transformers in Scythes are designed for for a higher Alternating Current frequency than what Bretonian power plants output. This incurs quite a bit of power loss when operating the guns and a potential for catastrophic failure . This will necessitate replacing the stock transformer with one designed for the Bretonian standard frequency. The full wave rectifier will need to be replaced too. A new revised design for the wiring and electricals of the Scythe has been attached to this report. Hopefully this revised design with the new Transformer and full wave rectifier will bring the power draw and waste heat generated to a much more manageable level.
