Velvet started as a group of Zoners that worked on the removal of Nomad influence and incursions in the Omicron systems, based primarily out of Freeport 11.
What started off as a small group of people wanting to protect their home, slowly began to grow into a group that did not just provide security for the war-weary Freeport, but for other Zoners stations within the Omicrons - two of the notable defensive actions taken by Velvet culminating in the defence of both Hellas Station and Freeport 9 from several Nomad assaults.
The vision of Velvet is for all humans to be able to survive and prosper in the outer Omicron systems without the fear of the culling of human lives by alien incursion and influence. The organization will achieve this by using war ships provided by different benefactors to destroy Nomad warforms that lurk the Omicron systems with significant human presences, assisting anyone and everyone who is being harassed by Nomads and performing reconnaissance with state of the art technology to monitor Nomad traffic.
Although the removal of Nomadic influence is Velvet's primary concern, they are also heavy on the security side of Zoner assets, maintaining them as neutral grounds, a rare thing to enjoy in such troubled times. Velvet aims to maintain this through it's strict policy on rules being applied equally, fairly and above all, without prejudice.
Since it's inception under the leadership of Melissa Jones, the Velvet Organization, at first backed by a myriad of benefactors, has grown to become in and of itself a self-sufficient entity, holding a small flotilla of warships and snubcraft and forming it's own In-House Logistics Division. With the exact number of those operating under it's banner are unknown, the organization is growing in not just size, but capability, bolstered by those who see a future where Zoner neutrality is respected, and not begrudgingly allowed.
Although Velvet is an organisation that falls under the Zoner banner, it has since grown to be more than just a Zoner operation. People from all over Sirius have since joined, regardless of creed, and have pledged their freedoms to protect the freedom and safety of others. With assets ranging from a fully functioning fleet now known as "Canis", several battle groups, task groups and even several specialist wings, the Organisation continues to grow, expand and above all, protect the interests of the people of the Edge Worlds. Primarily focusing on Zoner assets they still maintain a strict rule of not bringing any harm to the Zoner community.
Velvet never has, and never will claim to represent or have a seat as Zoner representatives. It maintains itself as it's own entity, despite flying the Zoner banner.
Goals:
Primary Goals:
To act as a professional and effective security team for residents and civilian traffic in the Omicron, Omega, Sigma and Tau systems. Allowing the free people of the Edge worlds to remain as such and not live under the tyranny and the authoritarianism of House space.
Have the capability to repel major attacks and offensive actions on Zoner bases in the Omicron, Omega, Sigma and Tau systems.
Look at securing more positive relations with the rest of Sirius space to allow for our own capabilities to increase. Allowing the free people of the Zoners to live their lives in peace while we work to ensure that peace and freedom is never put at risk.
Ensure that our headquarters of Freeport 11 thrives and succeeds against all odds that the Delta system has thrown at it in the past, secure it's borders and enforce the rules set out by the administration team there.
Secondary Goals:
To establish positive relations with neighbouring factions, the guests of Zoner assets and the Zoner community as a whole. We are their protectors first and foremost.
Look into ways of ensuring that annexations such as that of Gran Canaria never happen again by maintaining and growing the extensive fleet capability that the organisation has already acquired.
Diplomacy:
Allies - Independent Zoners, OSI, TAZ, Order Black Fleet, Orilion's Legacy, Core|, Genesis Research Group
Velvet|CS – Capital Ship
These will be the regular capital capital ships, Aquilons, Fearless Destroyers and any other capital ships that The Velvet Organisation will use.
Velvet|RD – Research and Development
These are the more science based vessels that use dizzying technology to achieve their work. They are mobile laboratories, deep space exploration vessels, mobile construction facilities and also vessels related to the technologically advanced prototype equipment that the Organisation uses.
Velvet|LV – Logistics Vessel
Trading ships mostly. These are the ships that deal with supplying and restocking of our fleets, as well as things like repair ships and mining ships. This is also to help with deliveries for other factions to assist them with their RPs which can then be used to assist with ours.
Velvet|Liner - Liners which are used for special and unique business.
These are the liners which are used more for public appearance than anything else. Also used as working vessels to assist alongside the Gran Canaria crysis which is still ongoing.
Velvet|FS – Flagship
Only approved vessels that are flagships of current fleets, as well as the flagship of the Organisation. Current ships are Velvet|FS-The.Cryolite Velvet|FS-The.Kaldra and a new Aquilon we'll build which will represent the Canis fleet and will be given the same name, Velvet|FS-Canis.
Velvet||STG – Specialist Task Group
The special forces, if you will. These will be elite pilots, ground troops, specialist and unique ships.
Zone of Influence:
Primary ZoI:
Primary systems: Omicron Delta, Omicron Kappa.
Omicron systems, primary focus on the southern Omicrons.
Sigma Systems
Omega systems
Tau systems
Secondary ZoI
Systems with a Zoner base
Ranks:
New Entrant
Someone within their early stages of joining who will be shown the ropes by a more experienced member. They will progress onto the next rank by one of the department leaders.
Operative
A member who has gone through their basic training and has been become a full member of Velvet who can operate alone or as part of a wing. They will also chose an area of expertise, outlined later.
Senior Operative
An experienced operative, who can lead a wing of up to 2 other operatives, as well as lead a new entrant. They are experienced in working alone and have good experience in leading a small wing.
Velvet Leadership
Seniority within Velvet who are in charge of ensuring optimal operational capabilities, expanding its field of influence, dealing with internal affairs and diplomacy. Melissa Jones is the de facto leader of the organization. The Section Leaders and other members providing reports allow for the Leadership to make informed decisions. Leadership also comprises of the division leaders.
Current Leadership Max Cosmatopolis (Dark_Knight) - First in Command, Joint Head of Velvet. Tia Stormclaw (thisDerius) - First in Command, Joint Head of Velvet. Jerard Voncloud (Aazalot) - Second in Command. Head of Pygar Colonisation and The Black Kite Fleet. Robert Bobberson (Solandros) - Second in Command. Lead of Logistic Division.
Allowed Ships:
Originally, Velvet operatives were limited to snub crafts. However, since it's primary inception, and since growing from a wing to an fully fledged organisation, the operatives and agents of Velvet now have mostly free reign on which ships they are capable of using. Velvet currently has a battlegroup worth of capital ships as well as countless wings of fighters and bombers which have seen extensive use around Sirius.
All snubcrafts are provided by Velvet’s benefactors and it's own internal funding, but pilots can bring their own ships to battle under the wing’s name, however this first has to be approved by Melissa Jones. The ships that are provided can be freely modified, the Ships and Weapon Systems that are currently permitted are all Civilian, Border Worlds and Zoner technology.
Following Melissa Jones' conversation with Orillion's Legacy we also have access to Order ships, and equipment at the standard 90% Core for Zoner ID ships. However, any of these are subject to approval by Melissa Jones. Following a new ruling by the Core, they are allowed to be used a lot more freely, but can be used so long as the local population are happy with the arrangement.
Commonly used ships include, but are not limited to:
It may be classified as a Light Fighter, but there is nothing light about this ship. With its expanded power capacity and armor rating the Scimitar has all of the muscle required to survive in the harsh frontier of the Border Worlds and even Edge Worlds. An excellent choice for those craving adventure.
The Reapers borrowed from the Border Worlds Design line of Fighters for inspiration to create their own fighters. The "Skeleton" Light Fighter incorporates the "Scimitar's" design features into a sleek and agile vehicle that nevertheless packs a significant punch in firepower. The Reapers custom designed a propulsion system that is more fuel efficient than the BW ship line, but still performs admirably in the rigors of combat.
Based on the popular Hawk, the Griffin's similar external appearance hides a completely rebuilt interior, with a lighter frame supporting expanded nanobot storage banks and an expanded cargo bay. The wings have been completely restructured, with reinforced armor struts and extra power cell storage to support its superior maneuvering thrusters and enhanced weaponry over its predecessor.
This rugged ship is the product of a harsh time for the Sirius sector, cold and brutal like the space through which it flies. Generally considered crude by wealthier pilots, the Jackdaw is usually just the right tool for a less-scrupulous individual. Its raw speed keeps the vessel competitive with more well-endowed Fighters of a comparable size. As a bonus, spare parts are often cheap and easy to acquire.
An ancient testament to frugal ship design, the Marauder has been in production in one fashion or another for centuries. The simple design is unmatched in simplicity and maintenance, in many cases leaving environmental support to what the pilot can haul into his cockpit, in turn vastly increasing its demand amongst gearheads looking for a vessel which can be reliably tinkered without overwhelming fear of catastrophic failure. In fact, most 'standard' vessels of the class are simply hand downs which have undergone similar process.
One of the few true examples of a vessel that can reliably be purchased by virtually anyone with the credits in hand, the Marauder remains a rare, but not entirely uncommon, vessel to chance upon in the far reaches of space and Trade Lanes alike by pilots of all stripes.
As the name attests, this ship is formidable and is well-deserving of the reputation that it enjoys. With a balanced combination of refined offensive and defensive technologies, the Falcon delivers an astonishing amount of potential firepower to potential adversaries quickly and efficiently.
As commerce and some economic freedoms began to flood the Border Worlds, so did greater access to technology and the need for change. The Sabre is the fruit of the Border Worlds' ingenuity and pure capitalism coalesced into one lethal embodiment. This ship boasts enormous power capacity as well as extreme defensive capability.
The Reapers' small combat force required more versatile ship designs than those provided in the Border Worlds series. To compensate, the Reapers' new ships removed some of the automation technology and used the space to improve their fighter's maneuverability. Enhanced aerodynamics allow the Reapers to use their very heavy fighter for planetary actions, enabling them to defend Planet Braillia both in space and in the atmosphere using the same squadrons. This capability also makes their attack squadrons a credible threat to the planetary installations of their enemies. While, in most cases, only space based fighters are scrambled to meet the threat of incoming fighter raids, detection of a flight of Reapers requires both space and atmospheric defense forces to be deployed, vastly increasing the resource drain that the Reapers can cause among their foes merely by making an appearance in hostile regions.
Few vessels have seen as much popular and widespread use in Sirius as the CTE-6000. With her ease of maintenance, rugged reliability and near universal supply of readily available parts, the nimble Eagle often finds itself in service as the space superiority fighter of choice for pilots ranging from convoy escorts to house terrorists.
eveloped by Ageira with significant BMM participation, the Havoc Mk II is an advanced modification of the first "Havoc", Bomber model that was popular in Liberty and Bretonia about 350 years ago. Mk II version features an advanced power array and increased agility compared to other modern bombers. While Ageira initially planned to sell the new Havoc only to Liberty Navy and Bretonia Armed Forces, company executives soon understood that this ship could make a lot of profit on alternative markets.
Based loosely on an old, unpopular bomber design, the "Waran" still bears the name of the vessel it has come to replace. Many rumors circulate about it's origins. Some say Junkers mated the powercore of the old Waran to the Raven's Talon frame. Some say the Independent Miners secretly constructed this bomber as a craft for unscrupulous clients such as the Lane Hackers. Whatever the origin, the result is a sturdy bomber capable of unleashing withering firepower on a hapless target.
As with all bombers, this ship maneuvers poorly for a craft of its size. Nevertheless, its firepower and widespread availability found quick popularity with the "more power, more guns, fewer problems" crowd, which it turned out included virtually anyone interested in blowing things up. From Junkers to Gaians to Bundschuh to Xenos, this ship has found universal employment by pilots for whom style is not a concern.
With an influx of Capital Class vessels, the men and women of action in the Border Worlds and Edge Worlds required a ship that could hold its own in the dangerous environment. Boasting more power and armor than the Series Z, and the additional fire power of an extra torpedo slot, the Cutlass has become the bane of Bounty Hunters and Criminals alike.
Designed more for hit and run raids against convoys or running skirmishes with capital ships than for head on assaults against fleets, the Cutlass possesses less armor than the Falcata, but boasts greater agility and thus, supposedly, equal or greater survivability for its pilot.
In the frontier, the need for individuals to move great amounts of cargo securely is crucial. The Dromedary combines the best attributes of the Series Y and an entirely new reinforced structure and defensive matrix to yield and uncompromising solution for commerce and trade in the most rugged of areas.
The Pelican and its predecessors have served the police forces and travel services of Sirius for centuries, safely ferrying prisoners and tourists to their destination and capable of turning would-be raiders into an impressive fireworks display. Modern Pelicans are built in a wide variety of configurations ranging from prisoner transports and raw material haulers to exploration vessels and luxury yachts. They have recently seen a surge in popularity among freelancers thanks to the specialized Cormorant variant, which allows for a smaller crew and heavier armor than the typical commercial versions.
Based in many ways upon the design philosophy employed by the Gas Miners Guild Kujira class transport, the ZBT is effectively a hardened radiation shell providing support for her massive engines to ferry her spacious cargo with unmatched agility. Forgoing traditional arms and armament, the Zoners rely instead upon their studiously cultivated diplomatic ties to assure the safety of the vessel.
Sales of the ZBT are explicitly prohibited to non-Zoners and those vessels encountered flown under any other flag are assumed to have been acquired by nefarious means, and their destruction rewarded appropriately. The technology of its internal frame is held under strict secrecy and the ship's engine power that ensures it almost unmatched agility is also jealously guarded.
The Fearless-class forms the basis of Zoner defensive deployments. Originally a medium Transport hull, the ship's cargo bays were filled with improved power relays to support more sophisticated weaponry than that usually accessible to transports. Smaller and more maneuverable in comparison with other ships of the same class, the Fearless has enough firepower and hull strength to keep most opponents at bay. This ship can be seen in many different regions of Sirius, guarding freeports or protecting Zoner convoys.
Designed to explore the vast reaches of space beyond the last starbases and outposts, the Aquilon carrier is a large capital ship with modest defensive capabilities. It features a large bay that can house many smaller exploration ships, as well as some defensive Fighters.
A true Carrier ship, it does not have martial prowess of other Capital Ships of its size. The Aquilon is most effective when supporting friendly fighters from a distance.
The first ships of the Kusari Explorer line were built in 490 A.S. , a period when space exploration was considered very important for the House of Kusari, the Explorers were equipped to spend long months and even years charting distant star systems for possible resources to be exploited by the state.
The initial design was adopted by Samura, and through it, the Gas Miners Guild who found great use of the vessel in their continuing mission of charting the expanses of the Crow nebula to seek out new pockets of resources to feed Sirius' ever growing energy needs. The Explorers of modern times have been retrofitted with superior military grade hardware and shielding to ensure that the Guild's finds would not fall into the hands of claim jumpers. Additional modern Kishiro amenities and superior sensor packages have produced a vessel that is as comfortable as it is hardy; as such the Explorer has found a valuable after-market for Freelancers and wealthy Kusarians alike seeking to find the next hidden jump hole, or luxuriate in its firepower, with a measure of comfort and security.
The Black Kite Fleet - Headed by - Jerard Voncloud.
After the merger between the Black Kite fleet and Velvet early in it's infancy, the Black Kites have since gone on to become the Black Fleet of the Velvet Organisation. Bringing impressive capabilities of the Zoner capital ships, the Black Fleet is the Zoner response to the ever increasing size of the Nomad Warforms. Although primary ships include the Aquilon vessels of The Kaldra, The Nyx and Velvet's own Platinum, there are also many other vessels included. Black Fleet is now more than it ever was.
The Bomber Squadrons - Headed by - Tia Stormclaw
The heavy munitions team that uses bombers to neutralise larger targets, such as capital class ships. They can also be used in support roles for other units. The head of this department is responsible for ensuring that all bomber craft are combat ready, serviced and are fully equipped for missions. They are also responsible for ensuring that bomber craft that are on loan are also well looked after.
Fighter Wings - Headed by Tia Stormclaw.
Flying everything from Light Fighters to Super Heavy Fighters. They are the main wing who deal with the smaller vessels, as well as extending to escort and support roles when needed. The head of this department is responsible for pilot training in fighter class vessels, ensuring all fighter vessels are combat and patrol ready, as well as heading the Reconnaissance side of things with the lighter class vessels.
HQ Division - Jointly headed by Max Cosmatopolis, Captain of The Nyx and Jerard Voncloud.
The section of Velvet which deals with diplomacy and relations. HQ also deals with recruitment, duties, assignments and more importantly, acquisitions. Although they deal with more of the background taskings, they are often the ones in charge of the major events that help shape the organisations future goals. Headquarters Division are also in charge of ensuring that any vessels that we acquire from others are able to be used at maximal efficiency as not to deter out own efforts and capabilities.
Logistics Division - Headed by - Max Cosmatopolis.
The section of Velvet that deals with the Organisations logistical needs of the faction. Although it is not large in size, the few vessels with in the Logistics are enough to keep the Organisation afloat, without the excessive need for benefactors like in the early days. As the needs of the Organisation grow, however, so will the burden on these craft, as more will need to be in routine service.

Maybe once we become mini razor using miners ( :
But really I don't think the Scraper would represent Velvet as a Zoner anti-Nomad faction appropriately.
