I don't think adding new alien races is staying loyal to vanilla. It would be loyal if said alien races was referenced and hinted in vanilla. The monkeys were an easter egg, though, and should remain treated as such. Like the Democritus Infocard.
Well I guess I could agree on that. Could they become something like a genetic experiment? But that again would imply that there was Human involvement, which then drops the value of it being "Alien". That's what I actually wanted to figure out, is there absolutely NO place for them to become something in the Lore, even if small.
Sorry, but I'm not a fan of this idea. I think that possibly an insectoid or amphibious alien could work, as that doesn't stray too far from nomads, and wouldn't make Freelancer seem like Star Wars.

The ruins on Nauru are from an unidentified alien civilisation (not of DK, Nomad or AI origin). I've always contemplated fleshing it out in detail, but on the other hand, I really like the ambiguity and lack of detail regarding them. It's sort of like the Dwemer from Elder Scrolls. Tenacity did some good work on them that we need to get canonised in one form or the other.
