Nicks ... you were not cheating by what I read. I would say this however ... do NOT run silent. Nobody likes silent traders that just hit cruise and take off. Give them a little role play in return. The less you talk ... the more ticked off the pirate will be. My pirate would chase you down just for being silent. But if you role play with me ... I might cut you some slack.
As to how much a pirate demands ... that's up to the pirate ... and its all perfectly good role play. I've seen traders post huge bounties on pirates and nobody complains. If a trader is willing to part with 50 mil to 100 mil just to see a pirate destroyed ... then traders really should not complain when a pirate asks between 1 mil and 5 mil. Me ... I only ask for 500k.
What you did was intelligent. And besides, "HALT" is not enough to constitute piracy anyway.
What the pirate did was powerplaying. Asking someone to drop all their cargo is just an outrageous demand. And I must say the same to lawfuls, though that's another thread.
All I can say is to remember to chat with the pirate. I say that as a pirate. And remember to scan him. I say this as a trader. If they don't have the means to stop you, tease them a bit and fly off.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.

Well ... there's MORE role play in asking for 100% of your cargo than demanding credits. Think about it ... in SP ... the NPCs always ask for 100% of your cargo. And if you have 2 or more different types of cargo ... they ask for 100% of one of them.
So ... there's nothing at all wrong with demanding cargo. I remember several months back there were numerous threads where traders (and a few pirates) were saying that demanding credits was OORP. Make up your mind people!
Quote:Shortly after this, on my second run out of Manhattan, i was confrunted by pirate number two at westpoint. Surely nough, i revieved a completely oridgional command to "Halt Kay". Wise from my first experience, i didnt sit around to chat, i just hit the cruise.
I always thought it was odd for pirates to be sitting and pirating right beside a military station.

*Phew* I thought i was in quite a bit of trouble there guys, thanks for helping me clear this up.
I will admit, the first time i ran, i ran silently, but that was mainly because i had no idea how to respond to "Halt", what should i say, "No"?? =P
But the second time, i had the chance to talk with my pirate follower about his demands, however, i soon found my self pin-baling off asteroids and other obsticles while cruising, which actually, almost cost me my life.
I will be more conversational with pirates in the future, however, regarding the aligations of me speed cheating, i was following some advice from a friend about ducking in and out of trade lanes to confuse and annoy the pirates following you. That was my my speed kept jumping from 350 to over a thousand.
Anyway, im off to get back on with my trading. Ive still got 50 trips to go before i can afford a luxury liner =[.
