A difficult concept to learn is that acting humble does not equal suffering humiliation. Often, showing humility is a sign of superior intelligence. On that note I think IMG made some bad decisions, letting ego cloud their decision making. To call this a suicide is a bit rich. Perhaps it's a good learning moment and not too late to turn the tide.
My indie IMG be like: Hates Gallia for starting this entire mess in the first place, check. Hates Bretonia for sieging a shipyard that thousands of miners called home, check. Hates Crayter for their obvious betrayal, check. Is focusing on mining and not being a political terrorist, check. Kinda pissed Liberty saved Bretonia's ass, check.
Wondering why the Guild is engaging in acts of hostility against foreign houses that have had a long history of being neutral to the guild that damn not only themselves but all the regular every day people under the Guild's standard, CHECK.
That aside, ooRP. I don't agree with IMG|'s decisions at all, but they worked for their status as an OF-group so really, the only people who can critique their behavior is themselves. I've made it no secret I despise the Guild as it currently is, but these are the actions they have decided themselves to make. Society judges everyone outside of Discovery enough as it is, I would urge all of you to not judge your fellow player simply by the actions their character took inRP. When circumstances effect your character's entire world and sends shockwaves through the pillars of their life they are forced to react sometimes in a panicked flurry, which was the case with Aland and will continue to be the case as long as the Miners that call IMG stations home are under threat of other factions.

Considering it required story dev intervention into CR decisions as well as the secondary trade objective with the nukes during the Fall of Toulouse event to prevent IMG's post-Henderson decisions get the entire NPC faction decimated by their surroundings within a single mod update or two, calling it suicide isn't that far-fetched. They still pissed off Bretonia and a battlegroup of CR ending up as CRN. Since then we are back on track with IMG pissing off Liberty and CR by attacking USI, then likely Rheinland soon by attacking Daumann. Suicide isn't aborted, just delayed.
EDIT: @Hemlocke
No, they didn't work for their status, Jack did work a lot for IMG's polticial standing within their ZoI and among their surroundings, and now we are here to witness that ruined by those who don't understand what, how and why he did to achieve that standing. Or just don't want to.
If Henderson would have wanted things to stay the same all the time, he shouldn't have left Discovery. On the other hand, he also didn't have to deal with that entire drama about Aland, while when it happened, most actions came from Karst, who pushed in that direction.
I can't speak for other factions but in regards to USI, our relations were very friendly as we had cooperated extensively for more than decade and considered ourselves to be their closest friends among Liberty lawful factions.
Of course all this history was thrown into the dumpster after IMG was taken over by a more radical leadership.

Henderson did have a similar deal around FP4. GRN was closing on in Magellan, so it was a question of whether they get the base and use it as an FOB or LN. Jack decided to hand it to LN, because he still remembered it was GRN occupying Java and Holman. Of course both sides agreed to pretend it was a forceful takeover so IMG won't suffer GRN's retribution elsewhere.
Bretonia offered the same, temporary use of Aland until the end of the war, giving it back afterwards, plus some extra, obviously making the whole look like a forceful takeover so IMG won't suffer GRN's retribution in the (at the time still) occupied Taus. This time Jack wasn't around, this time IMG denied, this time the house navy didn't have to pretend the forceful takeover. This time the drama was a bit more intensive and still lasts.
Could someone brief me in? What on earth just happened? It seems that I overslept something.
IMG, CR, Liberty fight with GRN >> Bretonnia stole some stations from IMG >> IMG formed blockade over overtaken locations >> some USI ships tried to break through the blockade >> IMG blown smuglling USI ships to pieces >> And finally in the result IMG was called an terrorists organisation by CR and Liberty?

Bretonia fighting and IMG not fighting GRN in the first step. IMG was supporting the allied side under Jack's leadership, decided to do the complete opposite after him. Also USI is a logistics partner to CR too.
EDIT: And the events around Aland were a bit more complex than "Bretonia stole some stations from IMG" too.
