About myself:
You can call me TeaWolf or just Wolf. Whatever you like. I am 27 years old and live in Germany. So please forgive me for any grammar mistakes.
First of all I would like to express my thanks to the group of people that created this wonderful mod. There are so many great details to this game. Like how the music dynamically changes when you move to certain areas within the same systems. Like the racing track. I love that piece of music. Or how such a huge variety of ships were added. All of them very fitting to their respective factions. Even the weapons have been changed in that regard. The Red Hessians being a great example with their red thrusters, red engines and red energy weapons. It just shows the effort people put into this.
I first experienced Freelancer through my older brother playing the game maybe 15 years ago. Even then this game blew my mind. Traveling through the galaxy, hunting pirates, trading, smuggling, even pirating. But most of all, just discovering new interesting places like the red giant in Omega-11 or the forgotten Sleeper Ship Hispania. It was not until 2010 however when I first started playing this game. And although the graphics were way outdated, this game blew my mind all over again. I went as far as to dock on every station, land on every planet and collect every code named weapon in one of my playthroughs. Just trying to create a complete map of Sirius. Yet I felt that there was not that much appeal in the multiplayer. All mods that I found did not add enough and most communities seemed pretty much dead.
And then I found this mod. And once again: My mind got blown like Freeport 7. I recently found so many great mods for old games that I like. For some reason there are no games like these anymore. And Freelancer is a prime example. Be it the barren No Mans Sky, the long overdue and overhyped Star Citizen(my last hope) or the way too monotonous looking Elite Dangerous. All these games are good but they can not 'blow my mind' if you know what i mean. For some reason I can not get another spiritual successor to Freelancer. Those are my opinions at least. If anyone disagrees I can respect that. But that is why I would rather play older games. With mods if it is possible. And Discovery Freelancer is on of those games.
Excuse me for the tantrum, but i just wanted to get that off my shoulders.
Anyway thanks for listening/reading through my rant. I hope I can get the hang out of the role playing aspect of this mod. My first hours in I accidentally ignored a LPI player for about 3 trade lanes just to find out that my ship was outfitted with illegal weapons and my ID did not match my IFF...
Hello, and welcome to Discovery. Indeed, there is something about the game that makes stay relevant despite all the years. Even the graphics can be made better with visual mods (although I'd advise to be careful with those, since changing some files triggers the anticheat).

I think that the RP aspect is one of the reasons why the mod has lasted as long as it has. It's easy to get into: just say what a pilot of this particular ship/faction would say in this particular situation. That should be enough for a start. But it's more fun to go farther: come up with a name for your character, and some basic backstory, chit-chat with other spacefarers, gamble (use command like "/roll 1d6" to roll the dice, or "coin" to toss a coin), make friends, make enemies, etc.
Regardless of how far you go with it, hope you have fun. That's the only thing that matters, after all.
